Just what exactly is a tic and what kind of things can be considered tics? I always thought of tics as irregular body movements. But the more I read on here, it sounds like there is more to tics than that. shelli

Hi,
Here's the APA definition: " An intermittent, involuntary, spasmodic movement of a group of muscles, often without a demonstrable external stimulus.A tic may be an expression of an emotional conflict or the result of a neurologic disease."
In the DSM , the Tic Disorders include: 1) Tourette's Disorder, 2) Chronic Motor or Vocal Tic Disorder, 3)Transient Tic Disorder and 4) Tic Disorder Not Other -wise Specified(NOS)
Hope that helps a lil.Take care.
