Jared goes in Monday for his adhad check....due to alot of the added behavioral problems I am requesting either a change in meds or something extra to help with the behavioral probs we are having with him....the constant sneaking off, taking money(loose change), mouthing back, arguing, fibbing, emotional outbursts....all those plus a couple ... he is on concerta 36 right now..should i just let them up the dose or is there something you all may know of that is better...we are also watching the diet and labels but when he constantly sneaks off to buy junk food it isnt easy...suggestions? He also needs more focus at school ..he isnt getting anything done and there is little back up support from teachers. I dont want the doc to see him for two minutes and just write out a script from the past charts... but I dont know what is good for the behavior part....(besides swats and my hand would get too tired ;D) concerta just doesnt seem to be helping for the behavior..

It sounds like if he is having trouble focusing in school....maybe he does need to be "upped".
The behavior problems? omg It is his age and I don't think there is a med for it.
The only thing we did for Paul at that age was to constantly monitor him....but that is hard to do.
I will be curious to hear what others say.

Mothercat, I saw you said about the diet and all. You are aware that I don't know what to do with meds....but are you letting him have ANY kind of snacky type thing? I noticed with Mikey, the harder we tried, the harder he became. SO we have cookies and stuff around the house, just so he could at least sneak something that wasn't detrimental to the diet. Good Luck with finding something that works

M/C, my ds in on concerta too, and we also have a check-up for him on monday ???About your problem... I dont really know....Sound´s like the age-factor is hitting hard, there is no med´s for that. Does he have anxiety or something like that?? That could have been solved with med´s... but being a teenager... no med´s for that I agree with kaiti about the snack´s, let him know you have plenty of "junkfood" for him, so he doesn´t have to sneak of to boy something you dont want him to have, small inconvineince is better than a big one I hope your doc can get up with something in here, good luck!!

We do keep some snacks...I mean with me baking and his dad around it would be hard not to...but I am starting to wander if his system is craving the snack itself or the chemicals in the snack...also could it be the thrill of snatching change and sneaking off...not to be a problem for awhile as dad grounded him last night till he shows him b's on a report card. (we will settle for c's but if we say that ...it would be all we got and he is more capable) 3 tutor session slips for non compliance in one week was too much for BObo. But as for the snacks ..yeah there are some. I kinda hope Doc gives him a spanking ;D ;D

When is he having the most difficulty? If it is after school, he might need a lower dose booster for the evening... My sd was doing that for a while, it really helped with after school activities, and homework... My sd didnt do well on concerta, but as we all know every child is different... For HER though concerta made my sd MORE obsesive as if that is possible! LOL Sd is now on adderall xr 25 mg, we love it, been almost 2 years on it or a doseage variation of it anyway... Good luck!! cat

M/C ... Oh I agree that the behaviour problems are not fixable by a change in meds ... and Jared is at "THAT" age!! but the med might need changing if his concentration is also lacking!! As for the snacks ... I honestly believe it is almost impossible to monitor the diet CONSTANTLY in a teenager ... or at least I for one have NEVER managed it !! ... When they are younger it is SOOOO much, much easier because you are much more "in control" of what they eat ... as they get older you lose that control ... (IMHO) ... and unless the kid completely "buys into it" you have no chance!! Yes - as a teenager I can watch what Sam eats at home ... yes I can serve him meals that are "good" rather than bad ... but I sure cannot stop him from nipping into McDonalds or a Pizza place or to buy sweets/candy if he happens to feel like it when he is hungry ... (He rarely eats sweet/ candy but he IS guilty on the others!!) ... I don't KNOW the answer to that one!!
