Hi all, although my ds has been using concerta for over 2 y now, I´ve noticed I dont know all of the med, can you believe it Anyway, as a schoolnurse, I came across a boy that has just resently started using concerta, everything goes well educationally, but.... His mom told us in a meeting some thing´s that got me thinking... He want´s to feel different material´s, he stop´s to thouch the couch, matt, linen´s....he does that frecuently. He also stop´s to measure thing´s like line´s on the floor, he put´s his feet on between the line´s and get´s frustrated if the feet doesnt fit(hard to explain this to you but try to understand me) He losst his father few week´s ago, is still emotional of that (obviously) so it´s hard to say what´s from the med and what´s from the tradegy in his life... Has anyone of you notice anything like this before, I keep thinking OCD or something... he seem´s to NEED to do these thing´s.... HELP!!!

Hi Marja:
It's hard to say. I will assume that he did not display this behavior prior to the concerta or the death of his father. I am unaware of concerta causing OCD behaviors in a child, so my first thought is that perhaps he feels loss of control of his world due to the death of his father and therefore is trying to control another aspect of his life. I would suggest that the parent speak to a psychologist and explore this behavior more thoroughly or if she believes it is due to the concerta she can try either diminishing the dosage or taking him off of the concerta for a while and see what happens.
I don't know if this helped. I hope it did.
Joshua

Joshua, thank you, you pretty much said what I´ve been thinking. It´s really hard to say what triggered this behaviour, wich, as you already figured out, did not occur pre all these changes in his live Fortunately, they already have an appointment with psychologist and med will be monitored very closely(mainly by yours truly ) and all the changes will be notified to the doc prescriping those.... so I think we have it all covered... Any other thought´s, have any of you noticed any compulsatory behaviour with concerta?

Oh Marja .. that poor little guy!! I would personally put this down to the grief he is feeling over the loss of his father ... I also am not familiar with OCD as a trait from Concerta ..
