ADHD Warning Update

Many parents were worried after Health Canada blocked the sale of Adderall XR in Canada last February after post-marketing reports of sudden deaths in pediatric patients, even though the FDA said that it was still safe.

They should feel reassured now that Health Canada has reinstated the marketing and sale of Adderall XR in Canada after an extensive review by Pediatric experts.

Remember that children should still not take Adderall XR though if they have a history of underlying heart problems, including heart defects, high blood pressure, and/or heart or blood vessel diseases.

Thanks for this Linda ... This is important and also interesting ... I still get mad though that parents are put through this "agony" of "uncertainty" from time to time!

but then again .. it is of COURSE better to be safe than sorry ... !!

THANKS for the update. The ped tried to reassure me about the adderall this week but I begged to try metadate first. He said if the adderall was really dangerous the other companies that made like concerta and such would be shouting it out all over the media. Then he gave me some websites to check out. If the metadate doesn't work out - I won't be so scared about trying it out on the kiddo.

We stuck with adderrall through all the controversy, but only after reading about the circumstances of the problems vs the general population, and of course, talking to our doctor.

Funcat, thats the same thing we did. Of course since Dan was off meds for the summer, I did not feel panicky at all. I did start him up again for school 2 weeks ago, I figure it worked for several years, and he has never had a problem, I was not going to change him now.
