Thankfully the end of the school year is here. I'm convinced that the meds my son is on aren't working very well anymore. I'm considering weaning him off everything and starting over. He's been on some kind of meds since he was four and now he's almost ten. We've switched, increased, decreased, etc. all that time and I'm not sure what behaviors he'd have at all anymore. Has anyone ever started all over again after many years? I don't know how long these meds stay in their systems, though I wouldn't consider starting it without the doctor's assistance. I just thought someone might know. The other side of me is scared because in the past he has been soooooo ugly to me. Any advice?

Well what meds is he on? Dan is on Adderall, and we never medicate during the summer. I know others have also done without meds to give the kids a chance to gain weight, grow, or whatever. I know stims are not a problem, but meds that need to build up in the system may need enough time to build back up before school starts again, and that may not give you much med free time. Have you asked your Doctor? I would see what he has to say about it.

StrugglingAgain .. I think this is a potentially very GOOD idea ...i.e. take it back to "scratch" and look at it from a fresh point of view !! .. so you can SEE what the behaviours actually ARE without meds ... and then look at it from there!
You would then really be able to see what was REALLY happening ... e.g. if you see a definite mood disorder without meds then ritalin (or the stims) are a no-no .... etc.etc.
