My 13 year old is on Stratera and has not yet hit a growth spurt. My other children are shooting up like weeds. Just wondering if anyone has any information on this drug's effect on growth, if any. Thanks. Terry

Hi Terry and a BIG WELCOME!! ... I cannot speak for Strattera and am not sure whether growth is a concern on strattera generally or not ... but I do know that growth is a concern with the stimulants ... my son's psychiatrist says this is the NUMBER ONE reason why people STOP giving ritalin (in particular) ... BUT ... having said that ... my own son is now 16 and he started with ritalin and then concerta at age 13 ... and he is now over 6' tall ... I can honestly say it has not had a significant effect on his growth ... BUT having said THAT as well ... that is in no way to say this is the case for everyone... I am sorry that I don't know more about whether strattera has an effect on growth ... Hopefully someone else will have more information ... In the meantime though WELCOME ABOARD !! It is good to see you here!!

My son has been on a stimulant for the past two years and he has maintained the middle of the growth/weight chart. Miles

My Ds started on Adderall when he was 8 and is now turning 15 next month. He is 5'9" and still growing. He took strattera for about a year when he was 13, but we stopped because it really did not help him. I dont think strat has as much an effect on growth as stims do, but I dont know.

Sd isnt on stratera, and really really isnt growing!! For her though it is more hereditary I think, her grandma at her tallest in life (she is shrinking now!! LOL) was only 4' 10".... Dh is only 5'7" (small for a man, and I STILL say he isnt even that tall), but sd's mom is tall though... So far the dr doesnt seem too worried, since sd was always well below the norm in size department... Besides saves me a TON of money not having to buy new clothes all the time... ;D ;D My son is the same way, smaller then he should be, but I am not very tall... cat

my daughter took Strattera for a while... from what I remember it isn't supposed to stunt growth the way some of the stims can. Maybe a pharmacist could tell you?

Funny you should ask this question just at this moment. I just talked to my son's doc on this very issue. My question was do the stims themselves cause the lack of growth or is it the lack of appetite that causes the lack of growth. His answer was that although the stims themselves can stunt the growth is mostly the lack of appetite. When a child does not eat properly the body does not get the necessary nutrients to support growth. I asked him because my son is on stims but it did not affect his appetite at all and he is growing like a weed. My son will be 10 next week and already he is 4'7 1/2 inches. I am only 5'3 and his father is also only 5'3. We think he takes after my father who is 6'1". I don't know how much of this info is based on scientific fact but it made sense to me.
