My daughter Taylor who is 9 and is on Concerta who just recently started back on it (insurance problems) well I noticed today that she is having some mood swings, Today I picked her up from school and she was awful, she was screaming and crying over nothing, and ended up doing her homework in the bathroom, she refused to come out. Then tonight my husband said something to her and she put a pillow over her face and was crying and stormed off to her room and cried herself to sleep. Anyway, is this normal? when she was on it before she just was really tired but now she is getting tummy aches and now this. Man, I hope this gets better.

My sd was 6 when we first tried concerta (first medication try for her)... It did not go well at all for her... The worst side effect was the obsessions (remember she is also autistic so I dont know if that had anything to do with it), but she did have aweful mood swings also... So the dr prescribed prozac, then sd got violent! It was absolutely terrible for her...
If the mood swings seem mostly after school (not during school at all) it could be a comming down effect... If that is it, sometimes dr's will prescribe a small dose of something for after school to help with homework and the mood swings...
It is a tough road finding the right fit for your child, when taking the medication route... Best of luck

Jared had horrible mood swings on straterra...but never on concerta..he does have a come down time tho. Have you considered that it may not all be medication as girls are starting the hormonal mood swings younger and younger..my sister in NC had a horrible time with her two SD's and most of it is pms.. Althought it could be the concerta as all kids are different when it comes to meds..I would ask the Dr and maybe see what he thinks. These mood swings are almost as hard on moms as they are the kids ..I feel for you both.

:-Xto Taylor....Good advice here but I would call the Doc.
Concerta worked well for Paul and he didn't have the mood swings of coming off it.

:)As an adult I had HORRIBLE mood swings on concerta. High and happy in the AM, wanting to cry and scream in the PM. Dd doesn't seem to have the mood swings, allthough about 1 out of 15 days she is easy to cry and "had a bad day" It isn't too difficult to handle though. :-XBig hugs to the mood swing folks. I felt AWFUL!!!
