bluebird, depakote is used to stabilize mood. it wont do anything for the focusing or hyperactivity, unfortunately. mood disorders need to be treated first, then you can work on the hyperactivity/attention problems.
did you see my response to your depakote questions thread?

THANK YOU AMSMOM. I DID SEE IT. MY SON GETS TICS AND AGGRESIVE FROM THE STIMS. WHEN WE TOOK HIM OFF THE STIMS HIS TICS WERE STILL PRESENT. DR. SAID IT MIGHT BE TS. WE JUST TOOK HIM OFF TENEX BECAUSE WE WANTED TO MAKE SURE THAT IT WAS NOT CAUSING THE TICS. THE THING IS SINCE HE HAS BEEN OFF IT THE TICS HAVE BECOME LESS. I DIDNT KNOW THAT IT COULD CAUSE TICS. I'M NOT SURE WHAT THE DR. WILL DO FOR HIS HYPERNESS. I WAS HOPING THAT WHEN WE START THE DEPAKOTE THAT IT WOULD HELP. I AM JUST SO DESPERATE TO FIND SOMETHING. IT SEEMS LIKE EVERY THING WE TRY BRINGS TICS OUT. THIS IS JUST SO DIFFICULT, I'M SORRY TO BE SUCH A PAIN.

WE START THE DEPAKOTE SUNDAY. WE ALSO TOOK HIM OFF THE LUVOX 1 WEEK AGO. I WONDER IF THE LUVOX IS JUST GETTING OUT OFF HIS SYSTEM AND THATS WHY HIS TICS ARE GOING AWAY. FAMILY DR. SAYS THAT LUVOX IS MORE LIKELY TO CAUSE THE TICS. I SHOULD HAVE WAITED LONGER BEFORE TAKING THE TENEX AWAY. MAYBE I COULD START THE DEPAKOTE, SEE HOW THINGS GO FOR A WHILE IF HE IS STILL SO HYPER ADD THE TENEX BACK IN SLOWLY, AND SEE IF TICS COME BACK. MAYBE HE WILL NOT NEED SUCH A HIGH DOSE OF TENEX. HE WAS TAKING 3 (1MG) TABS A DAY. AT THAT DOSE HE STILL WAS VERY HYPER. SPYCH SAYS HE IS THE WORST CASE HE HAS SEEN IN A LONG TIME. THANK YOU FOR ALL YOUR HELP. IT'S NICE TO HAVE PEOPLE WHO CARE AND HAVE BEEN THERE.

anytime!!! i dont know what i would do without the support of the great people from this forum!!! i think it'll be a good idea to wait awhile after the depakote to try the tenex again. see how he does on the depakote alone first. is the dr going to do the bloodwork i mentioned? i dont like that the dr said your ds is the worst case he has seen in a long time. i dont think that was nice, professional or necessary. do you like the dr otherwise? it always helps tremendously to have a dr you can count on and that you like. good luck tomorrow please keep us posted

I HAVE BEEN TO 2 OTHER DRS. AND THEY BOTH RECOMMENDED THAT I GO TO THIS DR. THEY SAID THAT HE IS THE BEST IN OUR AREA FOR CHILDREN. I LIVE IN NORTHERN INDIANA. WE HAVE BEEN WITH HIM FOR ABOUT 6 MONTHS NOW. HE IS NOT VERY GOOD WITH WORDS BUT I WAS TOLD HE IS GREAT WITH MEDS. MY SON JUST SEEMS TO REACT BAD TO EVERYTHING. WOULD LIKE TO ADD THAT IT DOES REALLY BOTHER ME THAT IT TAKES UP TO A WEEK FOR THEM TO RETURN YOUR CALLS SOMETIMES. I WOULD NOT KNOW WHAT DR. TO GO TO NEXT EVEN IF I WANTED TO.

oh bluebird, i am soo sorry to hear this. i have never heard of depakote causing tics. im uspet that your dr is not more accessible so you could ask him what to do. you could do either option, it's hard to say. you can skip the depakote and see how he does w/ the tics. it's not going to start working immediately anyway. or you could try tonight's dose and see how he does. no matter what, they cannot make you keep him out of school. i know this is so hard. it will get better, it really will.

bluebird....It should not take up to a week for this Doctor to call back and answer your questions.
I would call them back ..It isn't right you have to wait so long. It is extremely rude of the Doc.
