depkote is used to stabilize mood. my ds9 takes 750 mg, but did start at a lower amount. it's very important that the dr orders a depakote level to determine if he is in the therapeutic range after a few weeks. he should also order a liver function panel to get a baseline. the therapeutic range is roughly between 70 and 100 (im pretty sure about the 70, but it may be a few points higher). once the therapeutic level is established, depakote level and liver function should be done twice a yr. after trying many meds over several yrs, depakote (combined w/ risperdal and elavil) have proven to be the best med combo for my ds. you may be able to stop the tenex, but the dr would know for sure. tenex never worked for my ds. good luck and keep us posted.
