Just kind of curious if anyone knows how our 11 yr old son's psychiatrist will handle his medication changes with the new ADHD diagnosis.
He is currently on both Trileptal and Abilify 2 x a day, which has helped to stabilize is mood swings. What we have found is that he is using his temper tantrums whenever he doesn't want to do something that either he doesn't like, or possibly is overwhelmed by. The psychologist is recommending that he be put on a stimulant to help with the focusing issues, but we also had a horrifying experience with anger and rage when the docs tried him on Strattera over one weekend.
Any thoughts or ideas? I see others that are on these two meds already, so it may be that his pdoc will just keep him on the trileptal and abilify.

hi rainbow, my experience is that kids with mood disorders SHOULD NOT take stimulants. my ds9 is bipolar/adhd. he is on depakote and elavil for mood stabilization and risperdal for aggression. every one of the stims made his moods much worse. i'm afraid that stims might do the same thing to your ds, especially since you had a bad strattera experience. i know strattera is not a stimulant, but i would be very, very careful. good luck and keep us posted.
