MY SON HAS SEVERE ADHD, OCD, AND ODD. HE USE TO TAKE FOCALIN AND TENEX FOR HYPERNESS, GEODON FOR SLEEP AND MOOD, AND LUVOX FOR OCD. HE DEVELOPED TICS. WE TOOK AWAY GEODON AND FOCALIN AND TRIED ADDING THEM BACK TO SEE WHICH ONE CAUSED THE TICS. IT ENDED UP THAT BOTH OF THEM DID. DR. PUT HIM ON TENEX AT A HIGHER STRENGTH TO TRY AND CONTROL HIS HYPERNESS. HE ALSO TRIED SEROQUEL, TRILEPTAL, AND ZYPREXA AT DIFFERENT TIMES TO HELP WITH AGGRESSION BUT HE DEVELOPED TICS TO THOSE ALSO. TENEX WORKED FOR HIS HPERNESS FOR ABOUT 3 DAYS, NOW ITS LIKE HE IS NOT TAKING ANYTHING. THE SCHOOL SAYS THAT THEY CANNOT KEEP HIM THERE IF WE DONT GET HIS HYPERNESS UNDER CONTROL. THEY WANT TO SEND HIM TO ANOTHER SCHOOL WITH AN ED ROOM. THE HYPERNESS AND AGGRESSION HE HAS IS OUT OF CONTROL AND VERY HARD ON OUR FAMILY. I CANNOT GIVE MY CHILD MEDS THAT CAUSE TICS BECAUSE HIS TICS ARE SO BAD. I DONT KNOW WHAT OTHER MEDS TO TRY. RIGHT NOW HE IS TAKING LUVOX & TENEX. I HAVE HEARD THAT WELLBUTRIN MIGHT HELP. ANY OTHER SUGGESTIONS?

hi bluebird, welcome to our forum family. we are so glad you are here. i'm so sorry you are going through so much with your ds's meds. i had to go through a long trial and error med period w/ my ds9 also and i know how hard it is. i researched the american academy of child and adolescent psychiatry, here is the link: www.aacap.org/publications/factsfam/29.htmit sounds like your dr has done a good job of trying what is recommended. i know first hand how frustrating it is. i am hoping you find the right meds very soon. we are here for you.

Bluebird ... I can feel your frustration ... and sometimes it can be a long road to finding the "right" med or combination for your own son ... Every child is sooo different and the way they react to various meds can be soooo different ... Amsmom has suggested a very useful link ... I hope it helps you... & in the meantime we are right here and with you as you go on the journey of finding the RIGHT meds for YOUR son... GOOD LUCK!!

Hi and welcome!
My 14 yr old middle school dd has ADD and Aspergers syndrome. She's been taking focalin and zoloft for the last couple of years. Recently we discovered she is bipolar and has OCD too.
We tried abilify but she had too many side effects. Now we're trying seroquel for the mood swings.
I understand your concern about the "special ed" room. Her school has a special ed room for kids who have special needs 'above and beyond' learning disabilities (but she has those too). There are kids with downs syndrome, autism and other The thing that is so cool is that she loves the special ed room and teachers. THEY at least understand about her complicated conditions and they help so much!
She sees them as her support or safety place to go in the school when she is overwhelmed and needs help. All of her classroom teachers know that if she is having problems or a bad day, that she can quietly walk out of their room and take herself down the hall to her "safe place" where she is accepted by students and teachers.
I was afraid other kids would tease and make fun, but they don't. She has become friends with a group of nice popular kids who accept her for who she is.
All this to say--maybe your child's special ed experience--if it comes to that--would be a positive experience. I have been greatly relieved and surprised with how much it has helped my dd. Good luck to you. Keep us posted!
