I dont know anything about ritalin... Is that like adderall in that it is effective right away? Or does it need to build up in the system?
I know when my sd is sick, she is very calm, and subdued... I once tried sending her back to school unmedication, thinking maybe she didnt need it anymore... Well I was WRONG! LOL

I think that might be a common thing with our kids. Paul didn't get sick much when he was younger but he was just like you described. Weird huh? He never had side effects from starting all over either. I hope he feels better soon.

do you think when i send him back to school i should try it med free? i would be very nervous to do tyhat but it seems with the meds out of his system he is not at all hyper and that is why we medicated in the first place. it is all so confusing school is so great for him i am afraid to mess it up, what would you guys do?

I don't know--it's a tough call, cause I understand you don't want him to have a bad day at school. Yet you also have a great opportunity. He's off the meds, and past the few days where you see the rebound. Seems like you might want to take advantage of seeing what he is like at school without. You can always start right back if it doesn't go well. Guess it depends on how understanding the school is and if he is willing to try. Good luck and keep us posted.

crillmom, when do you think he will go back to school? if it is monday, you have the weekend to try him without meds. if you see the hyperness come back, at least you will feel that you gave it a try. however, in my experience, i think the calmness is from being sick. my ds9 gets so quiet when he's sick, i find myself wishing he would go back to mr. blabbermouth so i'll know he's feeling better!

Crillmom, you can try of course, but I think the quietness is mostly from the sickness, at least with my ds it is...
Does he have something really important at schooll tomorrow? If not, then mayby you could try, but if he has a test or something, then I wouldn´t risk. School is so totally different environment than home, so many distraction´s.....
