Hi everyone. I am looking for some input on my sons meds. He has been on adderall 10 xr for 8 months now. He is doing great at school. His grades are improving and he has more friends than before. BUT...at home he is stubborn, defiant, whiney, mean and sometimes aggressive. Today, I forgot his pill and he was friendly, happy and didnt fight with his sisters but also very goofy, loud, hyper and unable to complete simple tasks without a lot of reminders. I dont know if it is that he has been on it long enough that we just need to increase it, or if these things are normal side effects of this med. My dr is very conservitive and doesn't like to change meds or even increase them unless I have a strong enough case for him to do so. I just wondered what everyone else thought of these behaviors and med. DiDi

When is this? Is it on the weekends all day long? Is it after a full day of school? In the mornings?
My sd is on adderall xr, and I dont give a rip what the xr is SUPPOSED to mean it does NOT last all day! LOL For a while there, when sd had an after school activity, or alot of homework, we gave a "booster" pill of regular adderall 10mg.... That might be an option...
I am however happy to hear it is helping with school for your son!

It does seem to be after school. On the weekends it seems to start at about 4-5pm. Hmmmm, sound like rebound to you? Thanks for pointing this out. Maybe we need to add a boost in the afternoon too.

Didi It sound´s like a rebound for me. I think I´ve seen some complaint´s of adderal w/reabound´s in here before too. It seem´s to me (totally my opinion, based on what I rememebr reading from here) that adderal may cause more these kind of a side effect´s that other stim´s. Sound´s like(again; not a professional opinion) you might need a booster. It´s worth looking for.

My sister's daughter needed the booster, so she was put on the regular adderal in the morning and given the longer acting adderal at noon. This would get her through the evening.

For us DS's rebound would only last about 1/2 hour or so, and we got into the habbit of letting him go to his room during that time and just left him alone. When dinner would be ready, he was ready to rejoin the family. He said he liked the time alone for a while, and we were not subjected to his anger and agression during that time.
