I had an appointment set up for today months ago,for an ADD diagnoses with my Son's psychiatrist. When I called her, day before yesterday to tell her what all has been going on with his meds,we knew we couldn't wait till his next appointment on the 24th, so she told me to just bring him in with me. I noticed in the waiting room that it was packed and we were told we'd have to wait an hour for her,.(a popular doc in town) I didn't want to feel rushed when we were called back, so I took DS's 24th appointment.
Right now I am fine,I just want a diagnoses, but he REALLY needed to see her! To see what these irritablity issues are coming from and no sign of the stims ever working like they should, especially for his attention. She wants to leave him on the Concerta but 18mg, instead of the 36mg. I gave him 18mg this morning, and from what I can see, he is fine. No irritablity, or argumentativeness, but his attention is not too good.
She also started him on Trileptal, after telling her what has been going on in the last few weeks and taking in family history. She believes he has a mood disorder, so we are getting started on the Trileptal tonight. Heck I may find out I have this disorder instead of ADHD!Gosh, I really hate giving him anymore medicine, (what Mom does!)but if it helps him, thats ALL that matters,I want him happy!

cjsmom, so glad you got your ds in to see the dr. she sounds like she listens to what you say and knows her stuff! mood disorders are very treatable! i have clinical depression and my ds9 is adhd/bipolar. we both have to take several meds, but it sure does improve our quality of life!! good going mom!!!

Cjsmom, thank´s for sharing, Good luck for both of you My ds is on 18mg concerta(+ritalin 5mg on afternoon´s9 and he´s doing fine with those. You´re right; none of us like´s med´s any more than other´s, but you have to do what you have to do. If med´s will help child to get the education+ other thing´s he need´s then it´s med´s! One important thing with adhd-kid´s; selfesteem, I choose med´s to help support his selfesteem than a boy thinking he´s no good and always to blame Keep us posted!

I will probably be diagnosed with the mood disorder too, I have had bouts of depression, of and on, since DS was born,so has ALOT of people in my family. I also took the adult ADHD test I scored VERY high on it,I really believe I have ADHD,so does my parents and my husband, which is nice getting others opinion of how they see you. I have also taken stimulants before, and it's like removing blinders from my eyes, I feel like a totally different person! So I'll probably get a diagnoses just like DS, Adhd and a mood disorder. It really stinks, but at least I'll have a name for what the heck has been troubling me for most of my life! Thanks again ladies!
