Thanks eaccae! That was very helpful.
Now next question... for those of you who answered Concerta..... does it really last that long for your child?

DS takes Adderall XR, 30mg once per day. He had some rough times starting puberty and we added strattera for a while untill he matured some. This year has been great for him. He was on strattera for 6 months, than both for 6 months, now adderall XR alone.

My daughter takes Concerta 36mg and it lasts about 9-10 hours, on school days we had to add Ritilin in the late afternoon to get through homework and evening activities. It seems to be working fairly well.

Ds takes Strattera 40 mg. It's been great for a year and a half (he's now 9.5 yrs old), but the last few weeks it's been wearing off around 4 p.m. and evenings have gotten progressively worse (homework and emotional issues). I'm considering adding something, but am worried about it wearing off in time for him to go to sleep about 8:30 p.m. One of the main reasons we switched to strat from the amphetamines was the insomnia they caused.
I'm considering trying a highly caffeinated beverage at 4:30 rather than a prescription drug, just to see if a stimulant will work the way we want it to.

DS is on concerta 56mg 7 days/week this is a very high dose for a tiny boy like mine but his metabolisim is so that he need it.
We found that is is better to have him on 7 days because he get depressed and emotional when if doenst take them and the sleep patern also get disrupted with made him grumpy on mondays

Hi there, New member and I was reading everyones responses for info. So I guess I should jump in and share mine.
My son (12) is on Concerta 18mg and Zoloft 75mg It had been working well, except for some evening wear-off untill about a month or two ago. Now he is having all kinds of problems. We have an appt. on Monday and I wanted to have some ideas when we go in for what to do next. I think I might request an afternoon med.
Does anyone know the dosage vs. weight for Concerta. The doctor had indicated he was already on the highest dose but as I had read here, there are higher doses available.

Hi and welcome to the forum...18 mg is a small dose...I would think the Doctor would "bump"to a higher dose especially if it was working before.I think the next dose is 27mg...36mg etc.
Doctors usually always start at the lowest dose and then work up.

Hi Bjburness, welcome to the forum. About your question; the same thing has confused me a lot, doc´s in here are really carefull to bump the dose up, they say it´s wieght -related or at least dependable of weight. My ds is 9, weight´s around 38kg(dont get me startd with pound´s ;D) and got ritalin to add with his 18mg of concerta, because doc didn´t feel comfortable to bump the doze to 36mg(the next possible in here). But I understand it´s not the same in U.S, many kid´s have higher doze´s/weight. I guess it´s just a starting-doze, to see how he react´s

Marja - that would be about just under 84 pounds so for us here in the U.S. 18 mg of Concerta for that weight would be low as 18 mg Concerta is the equivalent of giving 3 separate doses throughout the day of 5 mg regular ritalin!!! So even if it is weight related it is as LOW as you can go . . .

Half my family lives in Belgium and the Netherlands so I have to have the "metric calculator" on hand at all times. Especially when we are talking about temperature . . .

Especially when we are talking about temperature . . . yes, I dont even want to start compairing temperature´s But Thank you Eaccae for the explanation... We have had concerta available only for about 3y now, doc´s hezetate to prescripe it and do use the lowes´t possible doze, even when I asked why she couldn´t write a higher doze for ds, since I´ve been educating myself in here... BUT NO, she thought it´ll be "too high"...So... nothing for me to do for it:P
