Does anyone have a suggestion of how to get feedback from a middle school on meds? There are five different core teachers. Does anyone use a form? Does anyone email daily? I find I can't tell much without help from the school. He is off meds on weekends, so all I get is the Adderall XR rebound! One last ques: does asking for feedback target your kid so much that it isn't legitimate feedback anyway? Please share your experiences. I can't tell if this is working or the school, which claims generally to see improvement is just saying it because they prefer to see kids on meds. Know what I mean? lisle

HI lisle, I haven't seen any forms after a child has been dx'd, but I would think that it would help. Just find one that could be duplicated and give it to the core teachers. Have them send it through to any of the special teachers. Have a comment area.....that way you might be able to see a pattern. Mikey was always in the principal's office on certain days when I would come into work . I found out that he was in Art at the time of his uncontrollable outbursts. Gee, no one else had a problem with him. But she would just throw everything on the table and say this is what you are making, get it done. YEAH, that worked. As far as a negative impact, I'm not sure how your school is, as far as knowlege about add/adhd, but our school has been getting more into the aspect of children with learning disabilities, so as far as that goes, I think that the feedback COULD infact benefit you. If they see that you are trying, they might be more apt to be open and bend a bit for your situation. Just a thought, Kaiti

Rose's school sends out a 3 week provisional grade report. This tells us quite a bit and we know what to work on. Her Dr. said "If her grades drop, she is having a problem." Well DUH! First 6 week reportcard was not so good.(3B's and 2 C's) I talked to Dr.we got concerta increased and 3 week grades much better.(1A, 3 B's and 1 C.) I would ask him if he thinks he's having any problems in certain classes and talk to those teachers. What about Parent/Teacher night? Does the school have a counselor? Just pursue all the avenues.

lisle,
yeah, i see what you mean and i think it's smart to be aware that your child's treatment can turn into a scapegoat or an easy target for blame.
my son is not on meds, we use homeopathy instead but we have also removed food dyes, preservatives ect. from his diet.
the way i "check" my son's progress/behavior works like this; i told his teacher at the beiginning of the year that we have modifyed his diet because he reacts to certain foods. when he exhibits hyper, sloppy work ect... it may be he's eaten something he should not have.
i check in with the teacher once a week and she lets me know how he's doing. maybe you could find one of the 5 interested in making a consistent connection with you? preferably one that sees your child often thr out the day?
now, i really have no concerns about food, except the dyes as he really does react negatively to these, but i don't want the teacher to be overly concerned with my alternative method for treating my adhd son. see what i mean?
he has had reactions to various remedies, mostly good ones but did have a day where he was in a fog after a remedy. i much rather the teacher think in terms of "food" as opposed to any medicines as causal. for some reason it seems less severe of a problem (not that it is!)
good luck and good job staying on top of things! kppy
