When I started my DS on Strattera at age 12, he went from the incredible hulk to a human like sweet heart literally overnight. That lasted a few months and then began the hulk behavior again, only with extreme migraine headaches also.
We took him off the Straterra, and he returned to a more even keeled child... less violent swings. He still looks like the hulk some days, but more often he is more of a Shrek!
I have never been one to follow any dietary restrictions. Just the sort of personality I have not being able to say No and not being a shopper...
When I took Strattera, I felt more even tempered also, but I also got worsening migraines (and I have been hospitalized 3 times with extreme migraines.)
DS and I are both med free right now, and seem to be doing better now that he has finally worked his way through a huge growth spurt.
Check what they are saying on the Natural Alternatives threads, and find the link to Millermom's web site... she is a wealth of information on the med issues.

My daughter has been on Strattera for slightly over a year now. When you start, it doesn't work like the stimulant medications. You have to take it for approximately six weeks before it builds up in the system and you get the full benefits. When she first started on it, I noticed a pretty immediate change in the mornings, which became less of a battle ground, but not much else. We stuck with it though, and after a few weeks things started to really improve. Every now and then we have to change the dosage a little, if she gains weight, but things have been going quite well sofar. My daughter was never extremely hyperactive in school, but from talking to others, hyperness is one of the things that strattera needs to really build up in the system to effect. I agree with tridlette, Millermom's site has a section under conventional medications, called "Everything you wanted to know about Strattera", that was SO helpful to us when my daughter started Strat.
