After reading countless articles about how a stimulant can cause adverse reactions in a child who is bipolar. Which My husband and I both believe Jacob is. We dc his adderall. He is still taking his zoloft and remeron. We stopped it on saturday. He has done very well so far. We noticed almost immediately that his rages were more controllable, he wasn't so violent on sunday and it has been even better today. I just can't understand why his psych would not want to see him after 2 visits to the ER and a stay with a respite family. I tried calling and she had no time to fit him in. He goes and see her next wednesday. I would like to try him on a mood stabilizer. To see if that would help take the edge off of how angry he gets and how moody he is. I have also noticed he is eating way too much since taking this remeron, he says he is always hungry. I know weight gain and appetite are a few of the side effects. We will see how it goes next week and listen to what the Dr. has to say.

Why is your son on Remeron in addition to Zoloft? It's true, Remeron creates the feeling of always being hungry! I agree with Amsmom, the psychiatrist certainly had every reason to see your son sooner than next week! I'm glad he's doing better without the Adderall. Keep us posted!

I can see where Adderall ccould make things worse for bipolar. My dd isn't bipolar and she went ompletely psychotic on Adderall! It was like Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde with her. It's weird though how it works for some and doesn't for others. I'm glad your son is doing better though. Hope you hear good things next week.

Christy, That is exactly how Jaocb described himself was Dr. Jekyl and Mr. Hyde. He is doing much better without it. he is on the remeron to help him sleep and it has been working he actually sleeps all night long, which hadn't happened in the past 2 years.

Wow, Remeron helps him sleep all night?? Maybe it's worth being hungry a lot! But darn these side effects! My DS 21 has d/ced his Adderall and has been started on Risperdal as a mood stabilizer. Right now it is making him hungry, as well as very tired. I'm hoping this will wear off. He's also been started on Strattera. He feels it is helping his concentration a little. He had some difficulty sleeping on Strattera at first. Poor guy, tired during the day and unable to sleep at night--on top of having lifelong sleep difficulties!!
