Down in Crocker.
I would wait and talk to your doctor, because you are also on that other medication aren't you -- the one that starts with an "L". I was researching it a few minutes ago. "Lamictyl", or something like that. Because that drug is a pretty powerful medication itself, you may want to ask how that drug and any ADHD medication might interact.

That sure is a lot to sort out.
RE "anxeity and sleeplessness can be caused by adhd. granted it may not be ," One thing that I can tell you is that the medications that you are considering -- stimulants such as Ritalin and Adderall (amphetamines) can THEMSELVES cause anxiety and sleeplessness as side-effects. Sometimes people take Effexor to try to counteract the effects of stimulant medications. So you could end up going around in circles.
My advice would be to try to find a doctor that can sort this all out. I don't think you should try to diagnose yourself. And there may be more than one problem. But you need to find a physician that has your confidence. Could your doctor in Crocker refer you to a specialist in a larger city?

Hi Daniel ... I agree with Hoodunnit that you really need a good doctor to sort this all out for you and get you on the right medication ... I did smile though at the description of the place you live in ... there are sadly not enough places like that left in the world these days! ... and I can well imagine that the people who live there are really great, genuine people ...
I would wait and see what your doctor says on Thursday and play it from there ... However, you are definitely not wrong to want to be forearmed ... but I think Hoodunnit is right ... the stimulants in themselves can cause agitation and anxiety ... espeecially (as I understand it) where this is already present ..... but this is something you might want to talk over too on Thursday...
Please let us know how you get on ....

well I went to the doc and got a prescription for strattera but I had to argue to beet the band to get that, she said" MR. boucher you are suffering from severe depression anxiety and ptsd the symptoms of those disorders are similar to add." and I told here that my therapist had gone over it with me and that I did indeed have add, the anxiety and depression are a direct result of that. long story short, I sat across from a person who doesn't hold a candle to me intellectually, that although in all her years of study she was able to master the complex art of psychology but for some unexplained reason could not maintain a firm grasp on the English language. and to top that off she refused to take me off the medication i was currently on. also i got the distinct impression that failure to comply with her wishes would result in some sort bad thing happening to my personal freedom. ofcoarse i am paranoid so i could be over reacting. sorry rambling here just very frustrated and upset.

Yes, I suppose it could be looked at from either standpoint. ADD traits and anxiety and depression. Which one is the chicken and which one is the egg? But Strattera, which is actually an antidepressant, is often found to be helpful for ADD / ADHD, even when anxiety and depression are not present. So it may be that she will treat you for ADD anyway. Strattera takes a while to work. Do you think that you will give it a try DANIEL? It might be just what you need. You never know. You might also look at our "Natural Alternatives" section.

I don't know for sure I would like to think that it would help but my patience is running low. I never really had any to begin with , but I made an appointment with my regular doctor for Monday and I am going to seek her council. I'll. abide by what she says. but I hate taking medication, I just don't like the thought of myself being on drugs. and effexor, and from what I found out about strattera, you have withdrawals when you stop taking them. I was taken off of effexor once before. prior to that I had never experienced withdrawals before. I at one time thought that people that get addicted to drugs were whimps, always whinning about their next fix and how they needed it bad. I am here to tell you I am a changed man with a new found sympathy for anyone having withdrawals. it felt like I was getting kicked in the head every few seconds for 2 weeks. and if I can avoid withdrawals from a drug(strattera) I have every intention of doing so. in the end as educated on the subject as I can be, I cannot ignore that fact that the doctor,(my regular doctor) knows what's best for me. also I have tried many many anti depressants and nothing works, they don't even come close. I'll stop now before I get to emotional about this as I am inclined to do. thanks for the help/ear\support.

Daniel, I just wanted to say that I enjoy reading your posts. I feel your frustration but I appreciate your sense of humor. It's good you have this talent. I'm sure it helps you and relieves the stress for others going through the same thing. You have a good way with words.
