Hi Brenda, my ds has been on stattera for a week now & he is blinking his eyes & kinda moving his mouth to the side, it isn't as bad as it once was, but I am so hoping it isn't the stattera, since we are starting to notice some other positive changes. My ds pdoc said that we need to give the stattera more time & get up to his target dose and then maybe his tics will start to go away. How long has your daugther been on it?? Has she had problems with tics before this med??

Thanks for replying.Yes she developed tics on all the stimulants. She was on adderall xr and just stopped a month ago.I was thinking it could be "leftover " tics but tonight I noticed the throat clearing increased alot after I gave her the strattera. This is getting so hard.We have been trying different meds for over a year and I really just feel like taking her off everything. She just started 1st grade 4 days ago and already getting bad marks for behavior, and she has been on strattera for 3 weeks.Did your son develope tics on stimulants or since starting strattera?

My son had developed tics about a year ago, and then he was put on prozac hoping that would help, being that he seem so anxious all the time & was having a hard time in kindergarten. The prozac did help but they were still there just not as much. They really came out when he tried a stimulant, but now he has been off that for over three weeks. I know what you mean I just feel like taking him off everything, actually I did at the beinging of summer, I weaned him off, and that reminded me why he needs meds. Today we up the straterra to 20mg from 10mg and he was irritable & tired ALL day. I am thinking maybe I should give the second one at night??? He starts 1st grade next week and I am a nervous wreck. Sorry your daughter isn't doing well Do you like her teacher?? Having the right teacher can make a world of difference. I hope things impove+++++

Thanks for the replies.Well I stopped the strattera 3 days ago and the throat clearing has stopped. She is still smelling her fingers but not as much. Her dr said it takes a week for strattera to get out of your system.I guess I have my answer about strattera now.She is more hyper now but I don't want her having tics permantly. She can't take stimulants or strattera,so what is next?

Wow, this is the first time I've heard that Strattera can cause a tic. I was thinking of putting my 7yr old son on it, because the stimulants have been giving him blinking and sniffing tics. So then, what are the advantages of Strattera?

So then, what are the advantages of Strattera? When we discontinued the strattera the throat clearing stopped after a few days.It could just be a coincidence but I think it was a tic. They say strattera doesn't cause tics but I've heard of a few people that say it does.It has a less chance of causing tics than stimulants.I would give it a try.Everyone is different and it might work for him.
