I am thinking about switching my son from Strattera which he has been on for a year to Focalin. The Dr. thinks that there will be long acting Focalin out soon and thinks it might work better. The Strattera seems to have really killed his appetite. He is ten and weighs 50 lbs. He has been taking Remeron mostly for the increase in appetite. I took him off the Remeron and really didn't want to put him back on a second med for the summer. The doc thinks I should but we kind of think it makes him mouthy- for lack of a better term. He thinks the Focalin would be good if it is long acting (as I don't want him taking meds at school). So to get to the point....How is Focalin working and does anybody know when long acting Focalin might be out.

Yippee! I've been waiting for long-acting Focalin to come out. My daughters, ages 13 and 9, are currently both taking 10mg of Focalin twice a day. They used to take Concerta, which we also liked, but over a period of a couple of years, it was not as effective as it once was.
Both girls like Focalin and they say it works well for them. I too, would like to give it once a day instead of having them take a noon dose at school. It has been hard to remember to take during the summer when we're busy running around. I have to keep a few handy in my purse for when we're away from home.
Focalin does cut down on their appetite a little, but not as much as concerta did. I think you'll be very pleased with Focalin. Keep us posted!
Next on my wish list-- a patch! I dream about my kids waking up focused! Wouldn't that be great?!
