Anyone stopped giving their child clonidine? I read that it should be weaned off, and it was, and also that red blotches could occur... My sd8 is having the red blotches but it has been over 2 weeks shouldnt the withdrawal be over by now?
I know I know ask the dr, which we did, but he wasnt sure how long it would last..

Clonodine was one of the first meds Kayley was ever on. It worked real well for a while but then started causing numerous side effects. It made her sooo sleepy and then she was a nightmare at school because she was tired and grouchy, so we quit it and went to something else. We have been on so many I can't for the life of me remember what it was.

I am probably too late, but I just read this about 5 minutes ago in my book so I'll pass it along.
Clonidine is available in pill or patch form, the patch is more expensive, but easier to use. It doesn't cause crashes in blood pressure that cause sleepiness...Both Clonidine and Tenex can affect heart function and blood pressure, so regular monitoring is a must. Neither med can ve stopped suddenly b/c of the risk of a dangerous drop in blood pressure.
I hope she is doing better...Becky
