This morning I had taken (1) concerta from the bottle to give to my DS after breakfast. I had it in my hand and was watching TV waiting for my DS to finished his breakfast so that I could give it to him. Well, unconsciously, I placed it in my mouth and swallowed it. I automatically was startled and shouted "Oh no!"
My DS asked me "Mommy what happenend". I answered him by saying "Oh I just swallowed one of your vitamins". He asked me which one. I replied "I swallowed the Concerta. My DS thinks the Concerta is a vitamin. I haven't really had my sit down talk with him as to why he needs to take the Concerta and that it is medication and not a vitamin. I feel his is to young..yet. But I will...in time.
Anyway, I just wanted to let you know my reaction to the medication. I felt it kick in about 30 minutes after taking it. So far I it has been about six hours and I actually feel great..no nausea..probably because I made sure I ate after taking it. I noticed that I feel more focused and calmer.
I just came back from a meeting. I was amazed at how much more information I attained and I saw myself participating more. Usually, in meetings I tune in and out, especially if they are boring. All I can say is that I am having a much better day. I feel that I am on task and accomplishing my work with great statisfaction.
My heart is not pounding fast. I thought the medication would do that to me, since I was never considered ADHD. But it hasn't. I had read that if you are not truly ADHD, the medication could have an opposite effect on you. I thought I would be hyper all day...that is why I was startled this morning. I could just see me running around my office like a chicken without a head.
One of my co-workers mentioned how calm I seemed to day and she did not know what happened to me this morning.
I do not plan on taking it from now on, but it has me thinking...if I have some ADD. I am having a real good and productive day... today.
Even though I was startled this morning after popping it in my mouth, accidently. I am glad this happened. I believe it was fate. You see... I have been wanting to experience the Concerta that I have been giving my DS, but I was always to chicken. I wanted to see what this medication can do and experience what my DS is experiencing. I have only seen the results of this medication and it has done wonders for my DS. He is doing great in school and sport activities.
I always had doubts about medicating my DS. But after expriencing the med, I see now how helpful it can be once you find the right dosage to give.
I just wanted to share this with you all. You all have been supported of me in the past.
Thanks and have a great day.
