Stephanie has tried Adderall XR and Concerta and they both caused tics.She is on Strattera now and it is not working.She has never tried the regular release stimulants.I am thinking that reg adderall might not cause tics like the XR because it doesn't stay in your system as long.When she was on Concerta and the Adderall XR she would tic in the evenings.Anyone have any experience with this?It is breaking my heart to see her struggling in school.She was doing so good on the concerta.She was the best reader in her class.Now she can't hardly read.She told me the other day that she was stupid  .She doesn't understand why she's not doing as good as she was a few weeks ago.Please Help! |

brendamccraw2, I am sorry that Stephanie is having such problems.
If you don't mind me asking, how long has she been on Strattera?
Brooke didn't do well on Adderall. It wasn't tics, although they may have been present, they were overshadowed by her behavior. Real Dr. Jekyl, Mr Hide type behavior on Adderall.
Straight Ritalin did the same thing to her, but it took longer for the problem to manifest itself.
One thing that she takes that do help control the tics is Guanfacine (generic Tenex). Have you heard of it? You could ask her ped.
Although she was calmer on the Strattera, the focus wasn't there like it was on stims, so we recently added Concerta (18mg) to her Strattera (40mg) and Guanfacine (1mg x2 daily) and she is doing better now than ever before. I have seen a major improvement in her schoolwork.

Honey was also Dr. Jekyl and Mr. Hyde on Adderall XR, plus tics. I really liked how well it worked, but what can you do??
On regular Adderall he was really different. It had a totally differnt effect on him and it was not working.
I have taken both forms and I prefer the regular form. It seems to have a stronger effect and then wear off when it should. It is also nice b/c it only lasts about 6 hours and if I take it too late it the day I can still get to sleep at night vs the XR form where it is there for 10-12 hours.
