When I first started Straterra for Michael, he was 12 1/2 and I gave it to him in the evening for the first 10 days. He never really had any of the sleepy side effects or the tummy problems I had been reading about. He did a total turn around in his focus, literally overnight with the first dose.
Then I went to morning dosing.
After 5 months, he started getting migraines really bad, so we have eliminated all meds now.
When I started taking the Straterra, I took it in the evening as well to start with. I would get what I guess I could describe as cold sweat shakiness around noon time everyday for a couple of hours. That lasted for a few weeks, and then it was easy sailing after that.
After the first bump up in dose I went to morning doses. Then it bumped again and I split the dose. That seems to work well at the higher dosage.

When I first started my dd on Strattera I gave it in the morning. She seemed to do better "hyper" wise yet no noticed improvement on attention. She's not a big breakfast eater, so it always left her feeling a little sick, so we went to giving it to her after dinner. No noticed change. Ironically, I just took her off of Strat about two weeks ago, and still, no noticed change. I too went to this drug to get her off a stimulant. No such luck. After several months of Strat only, we had to re-add a stim, and now she's back on stim only, and doing ok.
Good luck with you! Unfortunately, this med doesn't seem to be working out to be the drug we had hoped for for most all of us. Like all others, it starts out great and ends up tapering off.
Here's to hoping your child will be different!

My daughter takes 18 mg. in the morning and 10 mg at night. It seems to work best this way. We started doing it to lessen the tiredness side effect. She seems to sleep better at night too.
I started Strattera at the beginning of Feb. and I'm still working my way up to my target dose. When I first started, I took it at night so that I wouldn't be tired all day, but I still was at first, so I figured why bother to take it at night, and switched to morning when I upped to the dose I'm taking now.
Tridlette, how much do you take? Do you like how the split dosage is working? I'm thinking about doing that when I up my dosage again next week, and would be interested in your experiences. Thanks!

Shardstar: I take 40 mg. twice a day (when I remember ) I weigh 200 lbs. and should probably up my dose, but this is the first time I have ever taken meds for this. It took a pact with Honey's Mom on the side to get me started on the path to diagnosis. I knew for years that I was ADHD but the chaos was working for me until my 13 y.o. DS and his ADHD started ruling my world... I made the move for both of us. Meds don't work for him, but I feel like my life is starting to get on track! I feel so much better and clearer and not like I am in my own little world anymore that I am content at this dose... maybe I will eventually ask to up the dose. But, I am in no rush Laurie

Wow I'm glad stratteras worked for someone. Unfortunately not for us. My son tried it earlier this year. He definitely needs the stimulant because he was always talking in school(which he alwasy does ..but worse.) He wouldn't sit still. I guess it was like he wasn't taken anything. The only up side was that he gained weight. But lost it when we went back to 54mg concerta. The dr said it would take about a month to get the full effect so we waited that month plus another month of being on it. Sad to say we lost two months. Not to mention what his poor teacher went thgough

Thanks tridlette! I was wondering because I weigh about 150, and I'm taking 60 mg. now, and have been for about two weeks. I'm starting to feel like it's not working quite as well, though, so I'm thinking of asking the dr. to try upping to 40 mg. twice a day.
Just wanted to see if that dosing is working well for another adult. I really like Strattera too! I feel so much less out of it, and better able to function!

Emily takes her Strattera in the morning at about 7 am. It took about 4 weeks to get past the lack of appetite and sleepiness but now it's hard to tell she's on medication. other than she does better at school and rehab. She's gotten taller and gained weight the past two months though - she's been taking it since November 2003.

Took strattera at night one time. Was wide awake from 2a.m. on. Now take it in the a.m. and don't have any problems. Don't have the agitation and the mood swings that I did with concerta. (killing your husband is not allowed) Worried about my daughter on concerta but she oesn't seem to have the side effects I did. ;D

Katie takes hers in the morning. She's on 60 mg, just takes one pill, and it seems to work fine for her.
