I have been on Adderall for about 2 months or so. I really like the way that it works for me and I don't want to stop taking it, but I have a few concerns. I had a panic or anxiety attack last weekend, and then again last night. Not as bad as the first, but still not fun. I also seem to get really angry faster than usual. I seem to be better with my kids as far a patience goes, but little things are just setting me off. I am just much more emotional. You wouldn't beleive the tears over DH getting to the post office late. (No I am not pregnant!) I don't see the doc for another 2 weeks, so I wonder. Adderall is my new wonder drug and I don't want to give it up. It is really nice to be awake again. I also have a very strange something, but no one knows what, where I need ridiculous amounts of sleep. (like 12-15 a day (naps) and at night) I had lots of blood work done, and nothing is wrong, but Adderall helps there also. Any thoughts? ?

How long have you known you had adhd? What other meds have you been on? I have anxiety and panic attacks, but I am well controlled with klonopin and zoloft. What you describe definitely sounds like panic attacks . I can sleep alot to. I have often wondered if I did not have add with anxiety, but have never pursued a add diagnosis. Shelli

I have only been Dx'd for about 5 months or so, but looking back to my school days it has always been there. I have taken lots of antidepressants, Celexa, Paxil, Webutrin, Welbutrin XL, and 2 others, but I don't remember what, it was a long time ago.
I guess I never really thought about the ADD dx for myself until Honey got his and then his doc agreed I probably had it also. My younger sister most definately has it.

Adderall caused anxiety problems in one of my sprouts. It was just too strong for him. It didn't work for the other one either. When it wore off watch out.
Maybe you need a weaker stimulant?

Ritalin is supposed to be weaker than Adderall. Of course it can come down to dose too. Too high a dose of any stimulant can trigger anxiety. Anxiety can be caused by stimulants but it can also be present without stimulants. Sometimes anxiety that a person already has gets more pronounced with stimulants.
Some patients take both a stimulant and an SSRI to help with the ADHD symptoms and the anxiety symptoms. SSRIs can help with ADHD symptoms. Maybe having ADHD leads to greater anxiety in a kid. School is harder. Social interactions can be harder. They feel disapproval and failure maybe more often than their peers.
Some of the same things probably happen with ADHD adults too. I've not had a lot of problems with anxiety for myself as an adult. I've sure gone through some anxious times worrying about my kids and feeling like I can't find the right answers or manage their health care and schooling well enough though. Worse than a non-ADHD parent? I don't know.
I don't know if metadate cd is weaker than concerta. I know I've read some ADDults say it is. I think Allanque has tried both but I could be wrong.

My DH is currently on Ritalin 20 mg three times/day. Strattera did not work at all for him. He doesn't have the anxiety the way he did before his dx. He used to be very nervous about pretty much everything, and had been dx'd as unipolar depressive before our marriage and was on Zoloft I think and something else. The Ritalin really helps him focus, he can think things through much better, and isn't constantly worrying. He hasn't tried the LA version since the regular is working fine.

Maybe it is too strong. It doesn't "feel" like it, but I could be. I can't take anti-depressants since the last Welbutrin episode. I have always had a lots of anxiousness, but this is worse. At least I have not been as angry over the weekend, but my DH has been doing a lot to help me feel better. He is such a sweetie, don't know what I'd do without him.
