I haven't posted in a while, but wanted to let y'all know that my 7-yo DS seems to have settled down with the adderall. We still may get a minor blow-up at the end of the day, but nothing out of the ordinary (unlike the night he got mad and said he wanted to kill me). We've found that keeping him on the meds over the weekend works better but if he has a 4-day or more break from school, he gets a med break (altho he fusses about taking it on the weekends). I've told him that when he can control himself, we'll stop the meds. What I'm currently planning on doing is to stop the meds over the summer and hold off restarting until we see how he does in school. His teacher next year has the reputation of working very well with children who have problems.
