Several hundred years ago, before anyone had even imagined the kind of sophisticated lab tests we have available to us now, doctors relied heavily on examining a patient's urine as a diagnostic tool. They would study its color, clarity, odor and -- gross, gross, gross -- taste some on the end of their finger. So you're just following in a proud medical tradition with your stinky urine observation.
We don't use meds so I have no idea if they effect urine. I know the vitamin B-complex my son takes turns his urine a brilliant, transparent neon yellow. If your child suffers any discomfort with urination or stomach pain, you probably want your doctor to look at him to rule out urinary tract infection or kidney/bladder issues. Hopefully someone with medication experience will be able to help you out more effectively than I can.

I just thought it was because my darling daughter doesn't stop her day long enough to go potty! This is the child who, at the age of 3, sat in the car from Fresno, CA to Klamath Falls, OR and didn't have to go potty! I stopped at nearly every available McDonald's...
You're right, though, it does smell funny. Wonder why?
