My 11 year old DS had the flu December 19th. He had terrible night terrors, he also developed a possible new tic. He is now picking at his face. He looks like he has the chicken pox.
We have been trying to get him to stop, last week the doc put him on antibiotics and zyrtec. My DS may have Pandas, the thought is after the high fevers his ASO titers remained high - this also happened last year when his titers were 480. He never had this "pick the face" tic.
Has anyone else had this experience and if so how did you resolve it?
The antibiotics seemed to be working after 6 days of use, but it's not working any longer. My DS picks more in school, usually the left side of his face, the right hand is busy with school work. The teachers have been great, letting him recently bring in silly puddy to hold.
He is 115lbs and taking 15mgs of Adderal XR - he has a history of tics with medication, however since October he has been on Adderal and things have been really great. I don't want to take him off, because of the success he has had this year.
Any suggestions?

The illness and the antibiotics may have killed off all the good bacteria in his intesines.. This can cause an over abundance of bad bacteria in there which can cause a neuro toxic reaction resulting in 'tic' like behaviour. My suggestion is to get him some good bacteria!!! hehehe... sounds simple eh?>Not.. cut him back on items that contain sugar.. that way they have nothing to feed on, then feed him some good yogurt if he will eat it.. if not you can probably find accidophois or L. Reuteri in a capsule form at a health food store. These are some of the good bacterias that your intestinal system needs and don't cause those bad reactions.. For a little more explaination on how this works and for some dietary suggestions to accomplish this.. see www.breakingtheviciouscycle.info you could try the intro diet on that page and then introduce the yogurt/supliments. Oh and good to see you!! Long time no see!!! Denise

Update
My DS pediatrician wants him to see a neurologist - I have an appt on Feb 2nd at A.I.Dupont - They feel this can not wait for a 4 week appt.
I am crossing my fingers and hoping we get to the bottom of what is going on. I know my DS is having tics related to the adderal XR - just dont know where this will take up.
Wish us luck
