Hi, I haven't been on in quite awhile, but with school and work and Dev, I just haven't had time. Dev's pedi wants us to try Ritalin LA (40mg) from Adderall XR(25mg) for the 3 day weekend (4 day now that they canceled school due to the cold weather!! Gotta love New England!!) Anyway, is there anything I should look for this weekend? On Adderall, we had some weepiness, minor meltdowns, moodiness (nothing ever goes right. It's all my fault etc.) Has anyone else gone from AXR to RLA? Thanks for any input!!

Don't have experience with either specific med but just want to wish you good luck. We've had better luck with ritalin-based meds than we've had with adderall. Worked that way with both sprouts.

we have recently switched from concerta to regular ritilan. prior to that we used aderral xr. We are much happier with ritilan he is much more himself and i really do not see much of a rebound. he was much quieter on aderral and very intense ritilan seems gentler for him, but again every person is different so you just have to give it a try good luck

crillmom is right. Ritalin seems to be a little gentler for most kids. It was for mine. Adderall can make kids a little more intense than wanted and seems to have a worse rebound than the Ritalin. But again, all kids are different. It is good you are trying this over the weekend so you can see for yourself how he does and be there to react if anything out of the ordinar happens (not that it will . If your child has been acting weepy and moody on the Adderall, chances are he'll do much better on the Ritalin. Best of luck and keep us posted. Also, keep warm up there!!

We too, went from Adderall to Ritalin LA because of Adderall's weepiness and intense meltdowns. I find the Ritalin doesn't last long enough and since he's only taking a 20mg cap and half a 20 mg cap (total of 30) at breakfast, its all worn off by 3:00 in the afternoon. Have seen better overall results though. Good luck and stay warm (PA isn't much warmer!)

Brooke didn't last long on either medicine. On both she was way more prone to meltdown.
Regular Ritalin and Concerta worked much better for her.
Of course, all children are different. Good louck with your son and let us know how it goes.

Hey how's it going? Any thoughts on how Ritalin LA is working out for Dev yet?
I'm crossing my fingers the news is good!

Hello all....it's been so long! Too much to do and not enough time...I'm sure your all understand that!! Anyway, Ritalin LA did not last one day in school. I wrote a note into his teacher letting her know about the change in meds. She did say he was in a pretty good mood, but academically, it was a waste of a day. Impulsive and couldn't get on task. So right now we're back to Adderall XR, but at 30mg instead of 25mg, because Devin gained about 6lbs. since the end of August. It's still not working though, and his pediatrician is talking with the psychologist to come up with something. I hope they come up with something soon......I'm burning out fast. . His pedi is thinking about Strattera. We'll see.....

I've found that usually it takes longer than a day or two to determine if a medication will be effective or not. My son went from Adderall XR to Ritalin LA and the Ritalin LA is sooooo much better. My son was a walking time-bomb on the Adderall. The only thing I worry about is that he's on such a high dose and takes it twice a day. The regular Ritalin only lasted about two hours and now the Ritalin LA (designed to last 8), lasts 4 hours max! Everyone is different, but if this ever wears out, I don't know what else we can try, since we've been on almost every combination known to man!!!
