I was just wondering how many kids out there are on multiple meds and for what. Also, do they seem to be working?

Brooke is on multiple meds. Right now she is on Strattera (40 mg) and Guanfacine (1mg 8am and pm)
Background... She has been on the Strattera for 2 months. The Guanfacine (actually a blood pressure med, and requires an ekg every six months) is leftover from when she was on stimulants, as it helped to control the tics they caused. When we started Strattera, the pediatrician didn't want to take her off the Guanfacine, right away until she was settled on the Strattera. We will be removing it soon
Prior to this, she was on Concerta (36mg) Ritalin (10mg afternoons for homework and parental sanity) and the aforementioned Guanfacine. That all seemed to work, but I was looking to get off the stims so we tried the Strattera.

We've been one med most of the time.
Li'l Sprout was on Lexapro about 6 months during a rough patch.
Bean Sprout was on clonadine because he couldn't sleep when he took dexadrine. We finally had to dump dexadrine. He's been on concerta for about a year now. He just got diagnosed with depression and anxiety. We add prozac tomorrow. I hope it helps him as much as Lexapro helped Lil Sprout. I hope it can be temporary too. Maybe give him a chance to calm down and take a few breaths and focus on his coping skills.
I don't like giving meds to manage the side effects of other meds. I'm not sure that's what's going on now. He's got reason to be depressed. We'll see.

I asked the question, I guess I should answer it.
Wellbutrin Gabatril Buspar Torfranil pm
seems like alot, but he's on very very small doses. Combined they do the trick for him - even though I hate to give so many different meds.

My son is eight and on Ritalin LA, Focalin, Clonidine, and Risperdal. I hate giving him so many meds also. I was trying to cut out the night dosage of Clonidine, but after doing so I'm finding out that he's not sleeping as well and there's a direct correlation between his sleep deprivation and his behavior at school. SO, starting tonight, he's going to get the Clonidine at night also.

I am not using multiple meds but thought this would be a good spot to post a website that has a drug interaction checker. If your anything like me you will want to do a little research to assure you everything is ok with the particular med being mixed. You'll find the Drug Interaction Checker listed in the blue area on the left, just click on it and find your particular med. www.savonhealth.com/savonhealth/savonmain/default.aspxAlso, for Drug-Nutrient Interactions if you would like to add vitamins or other things and are not sure what is good to use or what should be avoided. Scroll half way down to the Alternative Medicine section and click on Drug-Nutrient Interactions. www.savonhealth.com/savonhealth/savonmain/medical.aspx

Cami takes Strattera after dinner, and Ritalin LA on school days only. We also have a bottle of Focalin for use with heavy homework nights, but it is hardly ever used.
