Just wanted to report that my son's ear infection required augmenten, that is after taking zytromax. While he was sick, it was as if there were no meds at all. As a matter of fact, this is the first time in nearly 7 years he has ever been in pain, and that's including tooth extraction! He's on Wellbutrin, Imipramine, to name a few. Anyhow, even though the infection didn't clear up all the way, now that he's feeling better, he's back to "normal".
Another interesting fact I discovered "after the fact". I think before his ADHD was treated, he wasn't really aware of how his body felt. I just thought he had a hight pain threshold. The doctor would be amazed when he was little and I would bring him in for a check up, only to discover he had double ear infections. Thankfully, he's only had a handful, and he's never had a fever. Sinus infections were our real problem as that was what a cold always turned into. Anyhow, though I hate that he is feeling any pain at all, at least his brain has slowed down enough to "feel" it. This includes both the good and the bad stuff. I can tell he's experiencing things for the first time. Again, this also includes the joys in life.
I'm just glad we're past the pain part of this infection, and look forward to all the good things to come this year.
Finally, I can say, HAPPY NEW YEAR!!

You know I never thought of it that way. MY ADD girl rarely complained of pain. She threw up in front of me and said she was fine and wanted to still go to school. Even after being on meds she still didn't complain of pain until she had to get her apendix removed now she lets us know when she is feeling badly.
We even had to write it in her IEP that the school will help her to talk about health issues ie feeling sick, upset stomach, headache and such.

I think that is interesting.Everyone thought it was strange when Stephanie was only two and she never cried when she got a shot. She was the same way when it came to being sick,She never complained. She got her ears pierced when she was three and I was so worried that she would scream. My husband would not even watch her get it done. She didn't shed a tear. Now that she is being treated, she cries over the least boo-boo.Brenda

How interesting! I can remember once or twice taking J in because he was pulling at his ear and discovering that he had a MAJOR ear infection. The doctor always acted really surprised that my son was even functioning with infections that bad. It made me feel that maybe I wasn't paying enough attention. Every summer we take swim lessons and every summer, no matter what we do to prevent it, J gets swimmer's ear. Evidently it should be pretty painful, but usually the only way I find out about it is when J tells me that he feels like he has water in his ear. We started meds after we were finished with swim lessons last summer, so it will be interesting to see how he reacts if he gets one this year.

Wow .. this is interesting ... I also had never made a connection .. but can also say that when my son was younger he had a LOT of ear infections ... sometimes severe ... and I can remember him playing football at a football camp ALL week and then being diagnosed with a raging ear infection ... which really didn't seem to have bothered him at all .. !! This is an interesting post and something I had never ever previously connected with adhd/add!!

I GUESS I'M NOT ALONE... Turns out one of our doctor's adhd son had the same thing. It wasn't until he was treated that he even reacted to pain. I also had the occassion of him throwing up, saying he was fine, and wanting to go to school. I don't really think this has to do with maturity as we only started getting med results this past September. He even says he's more aware of how his body feels.
This also means that his anxieties got worse too. If he was a little afraid of something, he became REALLY afraid of it. We're making lots of progress on that front too, but what a wild trip it's been.
It's all worth it now that he has friends and is happy and cheerful (most of the time).

Yep. Now that I think of it. My daughter had 13 ear infections her first year of life and I never knew it till I would take her in for something else. And when she got her tonsils and adnoids taken out she didnt stop for one minuted except that she wouldnt drink anything for 2 weeks. The Tylenol with codien only made her more hyper! There isnt any pain meds that work for her. And also(not to gross you out) but when she says she said she needed to throw up I didnt believe her and well there she went! Boy I felt like a fool!LOL! This forum is awsome. I havent had ANYONE to talk to about this stuff! Noone understands! Now I feel like I can really talk about this stuff and not be judged!

That is how it was with Kat and Mikie both but mainly Kat, she just was not herself it seemed and find out she had ear infection. No matter how hard I tried to prevent them like by holding her when she took a bottle and such.
Mikie before meds was a fuss kid now he is really fussy about how he feels. It is weird that it can effect each person so differently.
