I WAS JUST GOING TO ASK THE SAME QUESTION, AND I WILL. MY SON GOT A REALLY BAD EAR INFECTION WHILE ON VACATION AND WAS PUT ON ZYTHROMAX. WE STILL HAVE TO GO BACK TO THE DR ON THE 5TH TO RECHECK HIM, BUT IT'S AS IF HE'S ON NO MEDS AT ALL. MAYBE THIS IS A COMMON THING. HOW'S YOUR SON DOING NOW?

I forgot to ask, what are the symtoms of a rupture? My son is still complaining, especially when he blows his nose (even gently). He's been crying alot so there is alot of nose blowing.
Thanks

Antibiotics shouldn't affect stim meds but decongestant will. Signs of a ruptured ear drum include: sudden sharp pain bloody or pusy discharge dizziness ringing in the ear sudden relief in pain You may notice one or all of these. Zithromax is a great antibiotic and should help. Eventhough you only give it for 5 days it stays in the system for 10 days. Amoxicillin is a less effective antibiotic. It is usually used first because of this. If you don't notice a change for the better in 3 days call your doctor because it may not be working. Eventhough your child is feeling better DO NOT STOP the medication. You could cause a super infection. Good luck guys and I hope your kids feel better soon, Sue

Thanks for the info. He's somewhat better, after 7 days. He's also not on stims, but on Wellbutrin and Imipramine. I don't think his ear is ruptured, but I just wanted to know what to look for.

GOOD NEWS! Today was much more like "normal". I guess it's one way of telling he's getting better. No crying, no nose blowing, no ear pain!! He says it's just real stuffy sounding. Thankfully he doesn't get sick too often. In hindsight, it's a good reminder as to why we're on meds.
