is ii possible a lower dose of meds is better? I think my son did better on 27 mg of concerta than 36 he talked less and seemed to be able to concentrate more. It is so hard to see if thingsd are off this week because of holiday excitment or the higher dose. I still have 27mg left and would like to try him on it today but tonight we are going to my inlaws and would like him to be at his best. If I give him 27 and it dosen't look as effective can I add 5mg of ritilan to it. Thanks in advancer for any help

crillmom, not real sure. But if he seems to do better go with the 27.
I know we supplemented Brooke's Concerta with Ritalin, back when she was on it.
So I would think you could do that as well.
Good luck.
What does everyone else think?

We were told to supplement my son's concerta with a small dose of ritalin for a little while. He was on 36 mg Concerta and the next step up in the UK is 54. 54 was too high for him (made him too quiet/almost subdued) but 36 didn't seem to be getting the required result. He really needed about 45mg which is just not possible here! ... Therefore our doctor suggested giving him 36 mg of Concerta plus 10 mg of Ritalin ... making the combination more than the 36 but less than the 54...

Crillmom, It would make sense to me that because each child is different the way they are affected by a particular dose would have to be taken into account. "One size fits all" and "target doses" have to have some flexability. If you get a better reaction from a smaller dose then that is the dose you should stick with. These things are not carved in stone. I would say to give the dose that you see is working best.

Hi Crillmom, It is so funny that you posted this. I was thinking the same thing. My ds5 has been on 36 for about two weeks and I thought he was better on 27. My son is still pretty impulsive and hyper though. It seemed that he was better on the 27. I am going to talk to his dr about it on Monday and see what he suggests. Christine

I have been giving my son the 27 mg of concerta for the past two days, we had some left over. And we are really happy with what we see. I am going to watch him for the next couple of days but I am calling the Dr. tomorrow to change the perscription

Well the dr called to reschedule our appt. I am going to lose it. I cant handle the impulsivity or destructiveness anymore! He keeps ruining everything he has! My ds5 got a gameboy sp ($100) from Santa. Well he got frustrated trying to put it in the case and slapped really hard so he lost it. It is now mine! I was beyond mad. Then today he broke the antenna on the RC that he got. He is so destructive I cant take it. Last week he dumped out a full bottle of rubbing alcohol down the sink, poured iodine on the carpet and wall while he was supposed to be brushing his teeth. Did I mention the time that he climbed on top of my Jeep with his zip up shoes on and scratched the hood. He got new bunk beds for xmas and I told him that if he ruined them he would have to sleep on the floor. Well he decided that he wanted to gnaw on the side board of the top bunk. Welll the way they are set up when we take them apart the top is his brothers bed. I wanted to take back everything that I bought him for christmas. I didnt but seriously thought about it. Sorry, just a little frustrated!

jachkldavis - sounds like my son, now 8. He has spilled EVERYTHING on the carpets upstairs - they are totally trashed now - from my lipstick and red nail polish to black shoe polish - the list goes on and on. His father built him a loft bed but does he EVER use the ladder - of course not. And yes, he has "gnawed" at it as well. I don't understand it. He has written his name in crayon and pen on almost every wall and door and, of course, his ceiling now that he can reach that. And has windexed half of my wood antique furniture. The RC car he got a few years ago lasted maybe a day. He has gotten better about the writing and windex - but I have to keep my bathroom door locked and watch him - a few weeks ago we found a tupperware container full of shaving cream and other things in his bed and about a month ago he took his father's razor and shaved one of his arms and one of his legs. It's amazing he didn't cut himself!!!! So I can empathize with you! You are not alone!
