My 7yo DS has only been on Adderall XR for a little over a week now and displaying some of the side effects I've read about here. Lately, however, he's been complaining fairly frequently that his legs hurt and he can't stand up. I tend to put it down to growing pains but am wondering if it could be a side effect. Has anyone heard of this happening?

EllenR, I have never heard of that. But I would ask his pediatrician about it if it continues. When you say lately, how long has he been complaining of it? Also, is he able to stand? If he really can't stand up, I would definately call the doctor.

Dad2Brooke, It's just been this past week that he's been complaining about it. He can stand but doesn't want to because they hurt. I haven't seen anything like this on the board or on the adderall information sheet and it probably is growing pains, but the timing of it made it wonder. I'll definitely be calling the doctor if he continues to complain as much as he has been though. Thanks.

My guess would be that it's affecting his circulatory system in a way it normally doesn't. I did the same thing on tenex (it's listed as a side effect there though). I'm still alive, but I was definitely calling the doctor and griping about it. He took me off it when I was still having them after a week.

My dd has the same problem periodically, right before she outgrows everything she owns and we get to go shopping and buy all new clothes.

Thanks to all. Allanque, I'm going to start keeping a log of when his legs hurt to see if there's a better pattern. This week hasn't been as bad as last week but I definitely want to keep better track. (I always have good intentions of writing things down, but .... ) LtlBaa, they grow so fast don't they . Sometimes I ask ds how come he's growing so fast and didn't I tell him to stop that! ;D

My son was recently diagnosed with an allergice reaction to ritalin after being on it for 3 years. He presented with a red rash of rings everywhere and very achey knee joints, elbows and shoulders. It is very rare to have allergic reactions but when we took him off the meds, the achiness and rach disappeared in 2 days. See my recent post.
