Does anyone out there have an opinion on whether or not to stop meds on weekends? DS is on 5 MGs of Adderall XR 1 time a day. My husband decided this weekend he didn't need to take it on weekends. I would rather not give it to him if we didn't have to but I am concerned that there will be side effects on Monday morning if he hasn't had it all weekend....Any ideas? I do have a call into Dr (which PO my husband) but I am the one that will have to deal with the side effects Etc....My Husband also ADHD is against medicating....He himself is in denial and I think this is his way of gaining some control over the meds situation. UGH!

IMHO if you are taking a time release than I would not have a pill break on the weekend. Now the 2 weeks or so you have for Christmas, if you are brave than do it up until like 3 or 4 days to go back to school so the meds can build back up.
Even though my son takes regular Dexedrine, I try not to give many pill breaks because it is too hard on me and his sitere and the cats. He is not mean but he is turning in to his sister and want's to " love them and squeeze them and feed them good food" . We sometime give a morning dose around 10 am on weekends and skip the noon dose and give his nightly Strat med but other than that we try to be careful.
Kat we can be more caustious because she is just whinny and annoying, she don't try to "tear down the house in a single blow".

I don't give Honey breaks on the weekends. We tried it a few times, but it makes the weekend a big fight. He is on 5mg of Adderall XR also. The big thing for him is that if he does not take it he does all kinds of unsafe stuff, like running into oncommin traffic. If I knew he would only be more "wild" on the weekend I would try it, but not for now.

GOOD LUCK!!

At first I thought that we would not give my ds5 meds on the weekend. After a few weeks we skipped a dose on Sat. We really noticed how well the meds were working. It is a self esteem issue with him. When he isnt on his meds he is bouncing off the walls and uncontrollable. He gets into trouble more. After seeing how he was that Sat we decided to keep him on meds on the weekend. Maybe if he was older and able to try and control his actions and think about things first we could skip the meds. ;D ;D
