As I posted earlier my son seems to respond best to straight ritilan. He was taking concerta. If I give him a 10mg. tablet and then anothr 10 mg. 4 hours later is that too much?

DS was taking ritalin in the beginning of the year (we switched to 20mg of Metadate CD in the beginning of October). We were giving him 10 mg at around 7:30am and then 10mg at noon. So about a 4.5 hour spread.

My son is 7 and takes 17 1/2 mg of ritalin in the morning and at lunch time(same dose) then at around 5;30 to 6 pm he gets 10 mg because it actually allows him to focus enough to go to sleep at night. So I would say no 10 mg is not too much have a great evening Kymn ps to get that dose i have to quater the pills you were prolly wondering how I got that I only get the ritalin not the generic brand which you can get in 5 mg tablets but only in 10mg tab in ritalin

Hi My 7 yr old DD was on Concerta for 2and a half years. As of last week we switched to ritalin. 10 mg at 7-730 am then another 10 mg at lunchtime in school. Her teacher says she seems to be more alert. And she so far seems to be falling asleep better at night. She also gets hers about 4.5 hours apart.

My 8 yr old dd takes 30 mg Ritalin LA at 6 AM and takes regular Ritalin (was 10 mg but increasing to 15 mg) at 2:30 PM after school. The day-care doesn't see any problem with her, but when I volunteered a couple of times to help with her Brownie Troop, I wasn't pleased with her behavior. Dr. has agreed to increase the afternoon dose to 15 mg but I may push for 20 mg if I don't see results.
It was a long process over the past 2.5 years that brought us to the 30 mg Ritalin LA. First her doctor said he didn't believe in giving elementary school children the long acting medicines as he didn't think they worked well for the young ones. Therefore we started out with 5, then 10 and then 15 mg 2 or 3 times a day. Then last summer we went to 20 mg Ritalin SR morning and 10 mg Ritalin in evening if needed. When shool started, we continued this for a while, but had trouble in mornings. On my own, I had some extra 10 mg Ritalin (4 hour) so started giving her this with her 20 mg Ritalin SR (8 hour) in the mornings and then she still took 10 mg Ritalin after school.
This seemed to be working well but sometimes the afternoons weren't as good. Then when she had her meds checkup the Dr. switched her to the 30 mg Ritalin LA. Other than the afternoon question, we're satisfied with this for now.
