hello, my son started on tennex yesterday but he is taking 1/2 of 1 MG at night time before bed. I guess until he gets passed side effects for 2 weeks although I am not 100% sure what kind of side effects there are. I am just wondering who else uses them and what kind of differences if any that you saw. Thanks April

When I took, I only saw side effects.
Headaches, dizzy, muscles aching.
BTW, I'm 21 and was on 1mg at night. They told me to stop taking after I continued complaining after a week and a half.

My son took it to control the tics from concerta. He was increased slowly up to 3 miligrams of tenex. We saw NO improvements at all - the tics continued. We took him off.

Brooke was put on Tenex for the same reason. It helped the tics but had it's own drawbacks, which unfortunately I can't remember.
The doctor put her on Gaunfacine (generic Tenex) and it took care of the tics, with no side effects. Not sure why, it is the same med.
Anyway, one point I wanted to make is the drug Tenex/Gaunfacine is actually for high blood pressure. Because of that the doctor had Brooke get a EKG prior to being put on it and every six months since.
Now that she is on Strattera and off the stims, we plan to take her off it soon, but the doc wants to get the Strat straight first, so when she comes off and if there are any effects, we will know that it is the Gaunfacine leaving her system and not the Strat entering it, if you understand what I am trying to say.

My son is 9 years old and was also on Tennex for his tics. I did not notice much help for the tics on the Tennex. It also made him extremely tierd all of the time. I had a hard time getting him up in the morning, and he has always been on of those types of people that just love getting up in the morning, and had no problem getting out of bed, and I would have to drag him out of bed! He was also so very tierd all day his teacher a couple of times had to let him lay his head down on his desk and take a nap and he is in the 3rd grade and does not require a nap anymore. So, we finally had to take him off of it because he could not function on it normally. He was like a walking zommbie!!
