Stephanie's doctor added 18 mg Strattera to her 18 mg Concerta. She has been on it since Monday and she has been so whiney.I am hoping that it is a side effect that will get better. How long does it take ?She is getting on my nerves crying all the time. Thanks

Yes, that is a side effect of Strattera, esp. if they are on too low of a dose. The dosing of Strattera is weight-dependent, it can't be prescribed like a stimulant. Take your daughter's weight, divide it by 2.2, then multiply that answer by 1.2. That is the dose she should be getting, and if the 18 mgs. is lower than that, the whining will continue. Keep in mind this med has anti-depressant properties. If she is put on the right dose, the whining and moddiness should end when she is finished with the ramp-up.

Make sure Stephanie gets enough rest, Strattera seems to make them really tired. Katie would come home from school, take a two hour nap, eat, go to karate, do homework, and go back to bed about 8:30 or 9 pm. We also had tantrums and rages after several weeks of Strattera. Things did even out after we got the right dosage, but it wasn't fun there for a while.
