Stephanie(5yrs)stopped taking Strattera 2 weeks ago because she was still having a hard time focusing in school.I see now that the Strattera was helping her behavior alot. She is so hard to get ready in the mornings now. When she was on Strattera mornings were ALOT easier.I wish it would have helped her attention better. She was on Strattera for 2 months. We tried different doses(25,36,18/18) before we switched to Concerta(18).She has been on Concerta for 10 days and it is really helping her in school .She can write her name finally and I can read it.But she is still hyper and impulsive.Should I ask her doctor if she can try 18 mg Strattera and 18 mg Concerta?Or should we increase the Concerta to 27mg?Maybe we should have tried the combo first. Thanks,Brenda

Hi Brenda! Oh its so difficult isn't it - trying to get the right medication and dosage and then wondering whether we should have done "this" or "that" instead!!? Its also difficult to give advice because every child is so individual and what works for some doesn't work for others etc.etc.
I could well be wrong here (and am fully open to being corrected!) but I thought when Concerta and Strattera were combined this was normally used as a "transitionary" combination - i.e. used when 'transitioning' from one med to another - and one would then be phased out..... rather than as a more permanent solution...
18 mg is a very low dosage ... and you (& your doctor) may want to "try" 27 mg to see if this helps more with the impulsivity/hyperactivity issues. Don't forget that if it doesn't work you can stop immediately ... but it might well be worth trying just to see if it does 'the trick' ....
GOOD LUCK!!!!

I agree with AnneM, from my exeprience with Brooke. She was on Concerta. She just started Strat about a week and a half ago. For 4 days she was on both Strat and Concerta. On the 5th day she dropped the Concerta.
We didn't notice any better behavior when she was on both, although 4 days is not a long time.
Her overall schoolwork and behavior are about the same now as when she was on the Concerta.
Good luck with your daughter. ;D

AnneM I was gonna IM you, but I figured others might want to do it.
Basically I followed the instruction in the "getting to know each other" post started by Veronika at the top of the board.
I have tried to do it every which a way with no success, until then.
I used the Ripway site she recommended, and then linked to it in my profile.
The words are my personal motto.
Thanks,
