I saw Dr. yesterday she want to try 53mg of concerta (47 pounds) because it seems to where out in afternoon the pharmacist gave me a hard time she would'nt give them to me until she spoke to my Dr. she said DS's weight is below recomended doses..... she called back in the afternoon and said ok but now she has me doubting!! Ds heard our conversation yesterday about side effects and he didnt want to take it this morning he seems ok he is not zombied or has not complained of anything I'm just woundering how far I am willing to go so that he will sit still in class. are the teachers expecting to much? sometimes I think they want perfection. I have a perent teacher meeting on friday if I have the courage I will bring it up!

My dd was on Concerta 72 mg and she weighed about 75 lbs. She needed that much to focus at school and get the homework done. We switched her to Strattera 40 mg about 9 months ago because she wasn't eating or sleeping well. She's only about 80 lbs now, and she's about 5'1".

The potential "side-effects" are ALWAYS mentioned and MUST be mentioned by the doctors etc- but this doesn't mean that every child suffers from all of them.... my own 15 year old son has been on Concerta for 2 years and the ONLY side-effect he suffers is lack of appetite during the day. He sleeps absolutely fine, he is not a zombi and he is just a normal kid .... so although the side-effects must be pointed out and you SHOULD look out for them ... it certainly doesn't mean you WILL see all the possible side-effects (if any) at all! Any medication (even simple paracetomol) will carry a list of potential "side-effects" but although some people WILL suffer from some of these - a lot of people just won't!)
My advice is to re-assure your son that potential side effects doesn't mean for a minute that they WILL definitely happen - but if he notices any of them he should report them back to you - and if he does have any unwanted side-effects these will quickly disappear once the meds wear off....
GOOD LUCK !!!
