I'm a new member to this site, and need to start out with a "Thanks" to everyone. It was through reading messages posted at the site that I finally connected my son's increasing anger with the Strattera. We tapered down and have been off for 5 days now. Does anyone know how long before all affects should be totally gone? I'm trying to figure out what is a residual effect, and what is just negative learned behaviors at this point. We are just using supplements now; no meds.
Thanks for the help!

I really don't know for sure but considering that Strattera takes time to "build up" in the system - I would also imagine it takes a bit of time to be eliminated .... (a bit like some of the antidepressants which act the same way) ... Personally I would give it a month before being sure that your son is completely med-free and then at that point start to observe behaviours as being "really part of your son" and not part of a possible residue.... LOTS OF GOOD LUCK!!

Thanks AnneM. Out of desparation we started 3 things at once--stopping the meds, starting the Feingold diet, and a new behavior program. We realized that is not ideal, but sometimes you feel like you need some major ammunition. Anyway, he is MUCH better now. Still some anger, but not of the irrational rage variety, so life is much better at our house. Hopefully in a few more weeks we'll be even better. Thanks for the response!

My son has been off Straterra since Oct. 15, and I have a pretty happy young man in my house. When we took him off Adderall in June, he was an ugly green monster, and turned into a happy kid then. But the teachers couldn't keep the ugly monster at bay when school started up again. He was not the happy go lucky kid we have now that he is med free. We had to stop the meds due to migraine headaches. DH and I talked about this last night, and it is nice to have a happy kid around, even though he is LOUDER and wild at times again. I will gladly take the wild man over the HULK any day! The change has been somewhat gradual, but I think it is complete after a month. I can't say there was a distinct changing point, like there was the day we started the straterra.
