Hello, o.k. I have posted a couple times about my son. We started him today on Adderall (the generic version) and he is 4.5 41 lbs and has adhd/odd. The ped started him on 5 mg 1 time a day for this weekend to see how he will respond. It only lasts for 6 hours we are about 3.5 hrs into it. Firstly he seems very tired and moody, then all of the sudden he will be smiling and happy but if I tell him that he can't have something or that I need to rest (I am 38weeks preg) he falls apart! Starts calling me and anything else in his way stupid and dumb and trying to hit me and himself (things that he already did before) Should I give it to him again tomorrow or just wait till Mon and talk with his Dr? Any input or your experiences would be great to hear. Thanks April~

Patience is a game we all must play with our children. Our son took Adderall and Adderall XR-I don't even remember what the side effects were-but we switched to Ritalin. Anyway, in my humble opinion, you might want to give the med. a little longer to get a "true" reaction from it. As long as you are going to the doc. on Monday, I would certainly give the med over the weekend. In the meantime, I would go on-line to the Adderall web site and get as much info. as you can regarding the med. Every med affects every child differently. Sorry I wasn't much help--but I can tell you to hang in there and congrats on your pending "arrival."

April, was your son's behavior like this before starting medication. Is this a change since starting it? I would suggest giving it more time as he just could have been having a "bad" day. 5 mg is an introductory dose. Good luck I hope tomorrow is better, Sue

My 5 year old daughter started 18 mg Concerta Saturday. She was crying all day.She was also doing this weird thing with her mouth constantly.I gave it to her yesterday and she was better. No side effects.I believe you have to give it more time.Stephanie wrote her name the best she ever has yesterday and I was soooo proud. She wanted to practice writing her letters all day and she normally wants to play.Good luck.Brenda

My 6 year old is 3 1/2 weeks into adderall RX 5 mg 1 time day. It took a good 2 weeks for it to level out in his system. Now it's great. We get about 10 hours before it wears off. Side effects when we first started were moodiness, very weepy and not much sleeping. They have all corrected themselves over time. Good luck.

I would also recommend giving it a little bit more time, but on the other hand if he was still acting like this for more than a couple of weeks. I would let my doctor know, because this is exactly how my son acts when they switch his meds. and it is not the right one for him.

The dr said DO NOT GIVE IT TO HIM if there are side effects that were bad. So we have to listen to him. He isnt' going to take those anymore. He has started Strattera as of yesterday and so far so good, thank you all for your posts. April
