Honey is in his second month od Adderall XR. We have been very lucky, there are really no side effects at this point. He is eating very well, (maybe a little too well) his behavior has improved, his last report card was very good. The school said he is following directions better than he had in the past. He has also passed a few milestones, like trying to learn to tie his shoes, and zipping his own jacket. I think he is doing great. ;D ;D
The problem is that his doctor said of we wanted to we could try some other meds to see if we get even better results. She left it totally up to us. I guess I wonder if I should mess with a good thing. Why fix it if it is not broken? Or maybe she is right, maybe he could have even better results on something else. I don't know. I also don't know what else he could take since he cannot swallow pills yet. Adderall is nice because it can be put in applesauce.
I really need some advice on this. Like I said she left it up to us, but we don't know. Thanks...Becky

:)Hi I´am not actually in the situation to give any advice, since ds does not have any meds. But still ;D, I´d say that if he is doing well, as it sounds, why should you try something just for trying I think this was quite unprofessional from your doc. in the end he/she is the one that sing´s the prescriptions You may have to change med´s sometime, so I would think that you just carry on like this as far as it´s helping and try some new thing´s when needed!! My two sent´s Hang in there Marja

I agree with finnsmom .... if Honey is doing well on his current meds (this is GOOD news !! ) then I would also continue with your current med ... as you say "If it isn't broken - don't fix it" !! Maybe you will find at some point in the future that a change would be a good idea - but right now - especially as it is so helpful to be able to sprinkle adderall in apple sauce my advice is stay with this for the moment .... Lots of Good Luck and I am pleased he is doing so well!!

I agree. As he grows he will need more or different medication. His teacher will let you know hopefully when it looks like he is sliding backwards. If he is doing well without side effects why change? Does your doc want him to be perfect? Nobody is perfect! It is great to hear that he is doing well.... God Bless, Sue

I would agree with 'don'f fix what isn't broken' line of thought. My daughter just started Straterra today and I'm concerned about the different side effects and whether or not this will offer her any benefit. This is her first time on meds so I'm on eggshells. I hope to have as good of a success story as yours. If I do I think I will be afraid to change anything until I had a reason too. Good luck to both of you though.

I have to totally agree I would leave him where he is at if you are having such good responce from him. I noticed in my sons case that when the doctors started messing with his meds. and switching him around alot that is when he started to have more side effects, and that is when he started having tics also. So, I have learned the hard way when they are doing good don't mess with them!

Ditto above, why mess with a good thing?
If it stops working then you should either trying upping the dosage (if possible) or try something else.

Yeah, I have decided just to leave it as it is. I see no reason to make a change until there is a need. Thanks...Becky ;D
