Hi, I am new here. My son David is 7 and is taking Adderxr, 20 mg, once a day. It is working great as far as keeping him in comtrol but I am concerned about his weight. He has little to no appetite since going on ths. He has a Dr. appt. next month and I was wondering if anyone could recommend a different med to me. I need him to be on someting that is once a day because of school. Any suggestions? Thank you.

We had trouble with the weight loss on AddXR, also. Getting son to eat was a nightmare! It was sad because it controlled his ADHD symptoms perfectly. He was a happy, in control child. We switched to Strattera and he began eating normally again. Happy Day! However, after 12 weeks we had to admit that it just wasn't helping with his focusing or hyperactivity. Otherwise, I loved it. No side effects whatsoever and it wasn't a stim. Now we are trying Concerta. Only been on it for a week now, so no real news yet. Teacher says she notices better control in the classroom, but I'm going to watch his appetite closely. I'd rather have a healthy, hyper child than a sickly well-behaved one!

Hi my son is 7 also and is on Ritalin. Not the long lasting one though so he takes a dose at school at lunch time in the office.I do find his appetite at lunch has gone down but I just pack what I know he loves like pep pizza he gets alot of pep pizza lol and then I make sure he has a big breakfast before the meds kick in and then he snacks and has dinner after school and then big snack again before bed.He prolly eats close to the same as before just at different times now.Perhaps give that a try.Good luck
