HERE IS A LIST OF COMMON COLD MEDS FOR ADULTS AND CHILDREN THAT WERE JUST RECALLED BY THE FEDS..

All drugs containing PHENYLPROPANOLAMINE are being recalled. You may want to try calling the 800 number listed on most drug boxes and inquire about a REFUND. Please read this CAREFULLY. Also, please pass this on to everyone you know. STOP TAKING anything containing this ingredient. It has been linked to increased hemorrhagic stroke (bleeding in the brain) among women ages 18-49 in the three days
after starting use of medication. Problems were not found in men, however, the FDA recommended that everyone (even children) seek an alternative medicine.

I just found out and called the 800# on the container for Triaminic and they informed me that they are voluntarily recalling the following medicines because of a certain ingredient that is causing strokes and seizures in children:

Orange 3D Cold &Allergy Cherry (Pink)
3D Cold &Cough Berry
3D Cough Relief Yellow 3D Expectorant


They are asking you to call them at 800-548-3708 with the lot
number on the box so they can send you postage for you to send it back to them, and they will also issue you a refund. If you know of anyone else with small children, PLEASE PASS THIS ON. THIS IS SERIOUS STUFF! DO PASS THIS ALONG TO ALL ON YOUR MAILING LIST so people areinformed. They can then pass it along to their families. This email has been going around for years now has anyone actually ever called this 800 number??I would think if it really was being recalled it would have been off the shelves by now seeing as this is prolly the third year I have read it.Does anyone here know for sure?

I know they pulled the alkaseltzer cold products off the counter a few years ago... Please tell me this is old and they arent takeing away my miracle cold killer again... I was miserable the first time they pulled it off the shelves!!

Our Wal-Mart has pulled all the triaminic off the shelves here. I called the number cause I had a box of childrens triaminic cold. They are indeed sending me a refund slip and postage thingy. The local Fred Meyers is also checking all of the labels for this ingredient in all the listed meds. So its worth the extra few seconds to look at each box you have of the meds on the list. Our kids have enough problems without the added risk of strokes or seizures from cold mes.

and yes, I have seen similair lists before over the years. Its worth checking and tossing out old expired meds in your med cabinettes, just to make sure you dont have anything harmfull.

I saw this last year also. I checked all of our meds then and when ever I buy new ones I check them also. The recall is real. It is old. But it is real. A lot of the stores around here waited until they got the "new" meds and then just sent the ones in question back. ( I know the one that I work at didn't but a lot did)

As long as you check the labels for PHENYLPROPANOLAMINE you shouldn't have any trouble.

About 2 years ago when I worked in the local grocery store stocking Drug/GM we pulled all these products off the shelf for a recall.

All medications containing PHENYLPROPANOLAMINE were ordered removed from the market years ago (2-3 years, at least). Any still on the shelves would cause FDA to come down on the manufacturers very hard. That doesn't mean that people don't still have some in their medicine cabinets. You shouldn't keep any medications that long! Throw them out!

Here is the official FDA stance on it from the year 2000..
The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) is taking steps to remove phenylpropanolamine (PPA) from all drug products and has requested that all drug companies discontinue marketing products containing PPA. In addition, FDA has issued a public health advisory concerning phenylpropanolamine. This drug is an ingredient that was used in many over-the-counter (OTC) and prescription cough and cold medications as a decongestant and in OTC weight loss products.

In response to the request made by FDA in November 2000, many companies have voluntarily reformulated and are continuing to reformulate their products to exclude PPA while FDA proceeds with the regulatory process necessary to remove PPA from the market.

We have received numerous requests for a list of products containing PPA. Since companies continue to reformulate their products, FDA is not maintaining a comprehensive, updated list of products that still contain PPA. FDA is aware of emails circulating widely that list many products allegedly containing PPA. These emails, however, generally contain dated and inaccurate information and should be ignored.

The FDA recommends that consumers read the labels of OTC drug products to determine if the product contains PPA. The Agency believes this to be the most accurate method for determining the PPA content of OTC products rather than providing an incomplete or out-of-date list of products that may have already been reformulated and no longer contain PPA. so is pseudoephedrine ok?

All I really know about pseudoephedrine is: it's just like what they put in diet and fat burning pills, it speeds up your metabolism and can cause hyperactivity. This is the reason they put "may cause excitability in children" on the labels. For nasal congestion, I use Vicks vaporub and if Devin has a cough, I give him the cough medicine that diabetics use, sugar and dye free.

I wonder if these ingridients in these drugs effect just certain people like an allergic reaction of some sort or are they a health risk in everybody. It really scares me that the FDA can put something on the market and then remove it because they didn't do enough research beforehand and now it might kill you.

Ah, Nyquil, or as one comedian put it a few years ago, "Nyquil, the sniffling, sneezing, coughing, aching, how the he11 did I get on my kitchen?, floor medicine."

Yeah I really don't know if it really helps my flu or I just quit caring that I have it after I take it. ;D

Pseudoephedrine is ok, it is a decongestant. It is the main ingredient in things like Sudafed. But you need to be really careful with it. If I give it to Honey he will bounce off the walls, DD will go right to sleep. It has no effect on me. Also, it should not be mixed with some of the meds our kids take.

As for Nyquil, I get a worse hangover from that stuff than if I were to go out for a wild night. I am not that tough anymore...can't handle it....
