Hi all,I was just curious I dont see too many people posting info on Ritalin and was wondering if it hadnt been tried or it was tried and results were poor?Just curious cause it is the most tested ADHD drug out there. We get fantastic results from it after we found the right dose and we dont use the generic either just the ritalin.have a great day all Kymn

My son was on 5 mg of ritalin in the am and at noon for 2.5 years (generic) since the cost was either $5 with insurance for the generic or $25 with insurance for the name brand. We had great results with it. It was time for a dosage change this year - we went to 10 mg in the am and at noon and it worked great as well. We just went to 20 mg metadate CD about a month ago and it works great! We only switched because we wanted to see how the time release worked out. So far no problems at all! (I actually like it a little better because the let down is not as bad). And the metadate CD I believe is the same as the generic ritalin.

We couldnt do ritalin, as sd is prone to seizures... Her dr said that one can cause seizures IF they are already suseptable... I am not sure if we are missing out because of it ... Adderall xr seems to be working ok for now anyway!! cat

We didn't have a lot of luck with ritalin because of the "roller-coaster" effect and occasional bad rebounds... my son has done a lot better on Concerta ... where we see no rebound at all ... I think that ritalin is not so much talked about now simply because Strattera is the 'med of the moment' and therefore seems to generate the most discussion/questions etc.... Having said that however ritalin should definitely NOT be forgotton or ignored .... as you say it is the most tested med out there for adhd! I am really pleased to hear its doing a good job for your son!!

eaccee thanks for the tip on the long lasting form.I am thinking of eventually starting that but I wont make a med change until the summer so I have a few months to see the results first hand. But right now the short dose ritalin works so well and gives me some flexability with times that I am in no hurry to change it.I guess when it starts to bug Derek that he has to take it at school I will rethink the situation

My son (ADHD--primarily inattentive) was on Ritalin from 3rd grade until fifth grade with great success. With middle school approaching, we tried Concerta so he could eliminate the lunch dose of Ritalin. Unfortunately, the delivery system in Concerta (we think) upset his stomach and head so we tried Metadate CD. (Like Concerta and Ritalin, Metadate CD contains methylphenidate). He is now in 7th grade and takes a dose of Metadate CD on school days. As with Ritalin, my son has done extremely well on Metadate CD!

hello, my son is 3 and was on Ritaline LA 20 mg, and we had good results from it. We tried Concerta because of insurance problems and it was terrible and ended up back with the Ritalin LA which helps soo much with my sons hyperactivity and his impulsiveness... He has only been on Ritalin for about 5 mo. but is doing well.

;DYes, my son was on Ritalin for 2 years. We absolutely loved it. It was the only thing that did not make him have mood swings. The only thing was once he got a little older it didn't seem to do the trick anymore, so we had to change meds. and it took us quite sometime to find another medicine out there that would give us the results that Ritalin did for us without the side effects.
