Does anyone know of any negative effects of a combination of Strattera (for ADHD) and Zoloft (for depression)? Thanks for your help!

Rumcake, here's a quote from some useful information posted by mskris in another thread:
"This info is from the atomoxetine hydrochloride labeling:
"CYP2D6 Inhibitors --Atomoxetine is primarily metabolized by the CYP2D6 pathway to 4-hydroxyatomoxetine. In Extensive Metabolizers, selective inhibitors of CYP2D6 increase atomoxetine steady-state plasma concentrations to exposures similar to those observed in Poor Metabolizers. Dosage adjustment of STRATTERA may be necessary when coadministered with CYP2D6 inhibitors, e.g., paroxetine, fluoxetine, and quinidine. ( See DOSAGE AND ADMINISTRATION ) In Extensive Metabolizers individuals treated with paroxetine or fluoxetine, the AUC of atomoxetine is approximately 6- to 8-fold and C ss,max is about 3- to 4-fold greater than atomoxetine alone.
Thus, yes, there is an interaction potential between Strattera and SSRIs. You may have to lower the dose of Strattera.
Kris"

I was on Lexapro (a SSRI) and when Strattera was presribed last week, I was told to stop the Lexapro for 2 days and then start the Strattera. I was told them are not to be taken together. mary

My son (age 15) was on Strattera & Zoloft for about 4 +/- months earlier this year. When school let out in May he requested a med holiday because he wished to try to start High School med free. We have been treating his adhd since age 6 with Adderall, then Adderall XR and then switched to try Strattera this year. He had been on Zoloft for 3 years for OCD. When we weaned him off meds (over a 4 week period) he said it was the most awful experience of his life. He said he never wanted to feel that way again - so apparently ever stopping that combination of meds is a very dark time for some. He never made that complaint with Adderall.
