or say a prayer, whichever you believe in, for Cami!!!
As so many of you know and have followed over the past couple years, Cami has gone through a smorgasboard of things while trying to find her niche. She has done cheerleading, gymnastics, tumbling, acting lessons, softball, karate, and guitar lessons all since first grade. None have really stuck. Well, recently she has taken up swimming and an interest in shooting for that. She has always loved the water and loved swimming.... every since she was old enough to do so. She would swim 24/7 if allowed. Well, the high school she will be attending has a swim team. The weekend before last while camping, she spent pretty much ALL DAY in the lake swimming. We had time to talk that weekend and she mentioned a desire to try out from the swim team when she got to high school. I then took that opportunity to tell her that she could probably take advanced swimming instruction between now and then to help her learn and perfect all the strokes. We talked about all her interests and realistically where they would take her and how this one was the one we both felt like she may have the best chance at. I esp. feel like maybe this one is one she will take seriously because she truly loves to swim and she feels she is good at it.
Anyway to make this long story shorter... last week I found out Columbus has a swim team. They offer a summer program of swim instruction. I called to talk to someone about it and got the head coach of the team. He told me that if Cami took this summer program, really picked up all the strokes and did well, she could advance to the Columbus team (they are called the Columbus Hurricanes) and continue year round! He said she could then do the swim team in high school (which being on this team would MUCH better her chances of making) and continue with them if shew wanted. He said they currently have a few kids on the team that are on the high school's team too.
Well, she started Friday and was very excited. Today was her second day and she went even in the pouring and cold rain. Her coach said he had already noticed a big improvement in her from just Friday. I told him she had been swimming all weekend!
Please everyone, keep your fingers crossed for her that this will be her "thing". Pray it will last, she WILL pick it up and do well, and make herself a place to feel like she fits in. I have heard her say so many times how much she wants her own "thing." "A has softball, and J has softball. C has acting, and L has singing...... I want something too!"
Let's hope this will be her something!
