I have spent alot of time educating my teen sons and their friends on ADHD because they spend so much time at my house. Since DD (age 6) can be so irritating to them, I wanted them to understand her behavior.
One of the friend told me that he is ADD and used to take meds, but stopped. He talks to me alot about how difficult school is and doesn't have anyone in his life to really talk to about it that understands. He thought he was too old at age 15 to be taking meds because it he and his dad thought it was a "little kid" thing. I explained to him that many kids don't outgrow it and he needs to talk to his Dad about it. He said he would because they thought since he wasn't too hyper anymore that he didn't need anymore help.

on_edge, I really hope he does talk to his father about it and gets some help. We all know how difficult this situation is for kids.
Thanks for helping him. ;D

Maybe it would help the son and the dad if they took a look at the adult section of the boards. Many of us never out grew it and it has caused problems in all of our lives.

i also talked to dd's friend with adhd. he seems to be so determined to do without meds. his idea is that if he relies on meds he'll never figure out how to handle life without them. he never liked how he felt while taking them. but i also know he barely graduated high school. has dropped most of his community college classes and has a hard time holding a job. he just turned 20. good job on helping a teen, especially one who really seems to want to talk to someone karen
